So I'm gonna try & get this down whilst it's fresh in my mind. Sorry if it goes a bit wierd - had my baby boy 6 hours ago & can't sleep so writing & cuddling at the same time!!
1.30am, waters broke. I had several gushes over the next six hours with regular contractions whilst lying in bed. I got up at 5ish, rang L&D & they asked me to go in & confirm it was waters. Contractions slowed/stopped as soon as I got out of bed.
7.30am - drop dd at preschool & go to hospital. It was my waters Told to go home & air for more regular contractions.
11.30 - Had a nap while oh went for dd.
3pm - getting frustrated at this point. Regular contractions if I'm lying down but they always stop when I stand.
4.20 - oh offers to take dd to the library & get fish & chips. The second he leaves I know it was a mistake & the contractions start coming every 7 minutes.
5.15 - ring mum for dd. ring hospital & tell them we're going in.
6.15 - get to hospital & get examined. I was 5cm but cervix was very far back. The midwife went off to find me a room & the contractions really heated up.
7.30 - I'm really struggling on has & air. I ask for remifentanil & am told that it's a specialist prescription & they'll go & sort it.
8.30 - I'm begging for anything - epidural, pethodine ANYTHING!! One midwife told me I was doing "fabulous" and it was too late for any other pain relief. I yelled "I don't want to be fabulous... I want some drugs!!" Lol - pretty certain I was in transition & had that sense of loss of control that comes with it.
9.20 and the contractions stop "building" but are suddenly very intense, but with longer rests in between with no pain. I was told I could start pushing so I did. Although the contractions were immediately very intense, it felt so good to actually push. My body totally took over.
9.56 - Luke Thomas was born. He weighed 8lbs 8oz and came out with his hand by his face (little tinker!). I'm pretty sure I felt his hand flapping around down there as he crowned which was just so weird!! Then his shoulder got stuck but with a few pushes & the skills of my fab midwives, he was out safely! I had a second degree tear (had a third with dd & needed surgery in theatre). It really, really wasn't that bad. I'm 7 hours pp & still haven't needed anymore painkillers yet. I am thrilled I avoided another trip to theatre
He looks just like his sister did when she was born. We are besotted & I'm currently cradling him through his first night instead of sleeping!! Pretty sure I'll regret this lack of sleep at some point.
And that's it - I'll edit & update if anything else comes to me when I'm a bit less high on adrenaline & love for my new ds
