Has anyone else had slugs in their home? We moved in (rentde property) about 2 months ago and have had many issues. My main gripe being the slugs which like to visit our living room and kitchen:sick: We told the landlord about the slugs and they said to just keep an eye on the situation. We've put salt down and one night caught 5 in one go! We think the ones in the kitchen are gone but we are still finding slug trails in the living room some mornings, its really getting to me because they're crawling all over LO's stuff, I've had to put her playmat in the wash this morning because they'd crawled over that! I've also had a new rug delivered today but i'm apprehensive about putting it down because I don't want slug slime all over it!

Has anyone else had this problem, what did you do to sort it? Oh thinks we should get onto the land lord again about it but honestly I don't know what they can do about it, we've put salt down which has helped to an extent, I just don't want them in the house when LO becomes mobile.

I think diatomacious earth around the perimeter would help as they have to come from outside. Are there any cracks you can see they are getting in?

Hi we had this problem when we moved into a new rented property. Our landlord done nothing about it at all.
They were coming from under the washing machine & fridge we just couldnt figure out how they were getting in they even got under the seal of the fridge and into the fridge we were told to put a small tub of beer on the floor as that attract and kills them but it was awful going downstairs each morning to dead slugs. In the end we moved after 7 months as it got 2 much for us the landlord said it was down to mould & condensation in the house which they couldnt do anything about.
When we moved house i pulled the fridge out to give it a good clean there was at least 20 dead slugs.

We don't use our dishwasher, it isn't plumbed in and we had them coming on from the external hose for the dishwasher and would find them in the dishwasher and on the floor. Was disgusting!!

We blocked the pipe from the outside and the problem has stopped

Good luck!!

Oh god that's awful:sick:

We are thinking about moving again when our 6 month tenancy is up, there are a few other problems as well and it feels like so much stuff has just been covered up rather than dealt with properly. Just doesn't feel like somewhere we could live for a long time :(

Might try the beer thing, oh has a few cans left over from Christmas (he doesn't drink often lol), is it as simple as pouring it into a tub and leaving it in the room?

We had this and every night I used to put out salt (like you have) and eventually it got better. I think if it's wet outside it's worst too. It was never too bad in the summer. Fingers crossed you get on top of it. It's disgusting but it's just one of those things!

yeah i just used a shallow tub and filled it with some beer before i went to bed and when i got up the next morning they were lying in the tub its not nice.
I never felt cosy in our house if you knwo what i mean when i was making our lunch etc i was always watching the floor for them crawling out.
Hope you get it sorted.

Thanks. Yeah it's not cosy at all and because its on the end of a terrace it's a nightmare to heat and keep warm. I'm always checking LO's stuff in the morning (jumperoo, changing mat, play mat etc) for trails, it's horrid and I get so upset when I find them on her stuff. I just dont understand how theyre getting in the living room i can't find any obvious gaps or anything and because I don't know wgere they're coming from its making me paranoid about leaving lo's things lying about. Hopefully our next house will feel more like home.

i 100% am going through this too. removed our gorgeous rug as ive just had absolutely enough of it! taped up the vent. they still get in. salt the area they still show up, trails everywhere. can't wait to leave as i'll be like you and wanting to leave baby toys about soon but.... after finding slug trails every single day over the rug, up the cupboard doors to the gas meter, and along skirting, no matter how much i bleach etc etc..... i've had enough! Yes i do feel passionate about it haha sorry x

Do you have a cat, in our last house they used to come in after the cats biscuits

I never did find out how they were getting in, the only solution was to move
Sorry no help

Nope, although we are thinking of getting one, maybe we will wait untill we find a new place providing they allow pets. My uncle and aunt used to get slugs for years, they just said that one day they stopped coming in, not prepared to wait it out though.

I really really want to put the new rug down but I don't want slimey stuff all over it :( I wish they'd go away, it feels like we're living in a s*** tip. I can't relax.

haha its so wierd slugs can drive you out of your home isnt it. Theya re awful. They do seem pretty impossible to get rid of once you have them.

Slug slime is really hard to get off too, I could never get the trails off the kitchen floor

I know! lol! I can never find them during the day, it's like they dissapear into thin air only to reappear at night after we've gone to bed.

I stood on one barefoot on the kitchen floor once

put salt inside & outside of the house. have a look outside for any cracks they maybe getting in through & fill them with salt. have you checked all the vents? filled them with salt? do you have a basement? they can come up through the floor boards. you can put slug pellets down but make sure LO cant get them as they are poisonous.
xx

We had slugs in our living room, it was horrible :( I thought they were coming in via the vents for the floors which go straight to the outside so I use an old muslin to fix under the vents inside - I just lifted the vent cover, put the muslin in place and refixed the cover. I didn't want to block airflow but the muslin stopped the slimy buggers. Unfortunately they were also coming from underneath the skirting boards too, as there were little gaps around the bottom. I just swept a load of salt under there and they stopped coming in after a few days. There's probably a slug graveyard behind there but I don't care! I also liberally dusted around the vents on the outside with diatomaceous earth and pulled up the plants around the house. I would have used the DE inside but with crawling kids, it's a bit dusty.

Oh god, I had this problem too. The last two years I've had them in the living room. Last spring I put salt under the skirting boards, around the entire perimieter of the room, and all along the front step and under the front door. I didn't have another one after that. It's been almost a year since I did that so I think I'll do it againt this weekend to make sure they don't come back this year!

It really is disgusting to wake up to slug trails. You feel so dirty after cleaning it all up, especially as you know they are still lurking in your house somewhere!

I hope you can get it sorted soon! x

I'm so glad it's not just my house! We've put more salt down where we think they may be coming from and we are setting up a beer trap before we go to bed. Fingers crossed!
