Small junior joy prefolds seem bulky?

To keep myself busy as I edge into "overdue" territory I am playing with all my bits of cloth so I don't accidentally put them on backwards or anything when LO arrives!

I bought some small junior joy prefolds, and washed them so I assume (perhaps erroneously) that they have shrunk to their final size. I bought them to use in case I have a small baby who doesn't fit into my size 1 LL and tots bots, but I don't see anyway I could use these on a newborn.

No matter what I do with them they seem SOO bulky. I have tried all the different folds I have seen online (except the kite which got me into such a fluster I almost threw the thing out the window ). Even when I just tri folded it, it was hugely long and hung out over the end of the wrap (a rumparooz on the largest setting) by loads! The other folds seem so thick and bulky when I put the wrap over it I'm not terribly sure where the poor baby would be able to fit!

Am I doing something majorly wrong and stupid? Or are prefolds just super bulky?

Thanks for any help in advance!

How many times have you washed them and at what temperature? It'll probably take a few 60 degree washes to shrink them down.

When you tried them in the wrap did you push them into the shape of the wrap properly? If you just lay them flat across it, they will be longer. You need to push them into the wrap so that the wrap doesn't lie flat... not really sure how to describe it properly!

When you fold the prefold around a baby, the bulk is spread out more than just looking at them folded. Have you tried them on a teddy or something? That said, the sizing for the small prefolds says 0-3m so if they fit a 3 month old I wouldn't expect them to be particularly tiny as the weight range is quite big. They're not going to be like teeny newborn nappies. You can fold over the end though if they're too long. It looks bulky when you try it out but once they're on baby you don't really notice and you can put the extra at the front or back according to need.

Ahhh I washed them at 40 three times, so maybe I need to give them a bit more of a roasting on the next wash!

When I placed them in the wrap, I stretched the wrap out around the prefold, making it as big as possible, and them kind of....poked and stuffed the prefold so it all lay inside the confines of the wrap, and with the rumparooz I tucked it in as there are little pockety areas (if that makes sense?!)

I think you're right and when it's on a baby it will look a lot different. I'll give them another few washes at 60, and go from there.

Thanks, as always!
