So apprehensive about going overdue and worried I'll have to be induced.

Still waiting on 2nd baby, now at 41 weeks and 3 days over estimated dd, had a very small sweep a few days ago, was told cervix was quite soft but still fairly high and 3cm long (using evening primrose oil there every night) and im around 1cm dilated. baby is engaged, but according to notes at station -3, midwifes are oncall for homebirth till wknd. Im trying to feel positive that its highly unlikely I will need induced, as went naturally lasttime at 41 weeks plus 6 days. Please hurry up baby!
Just a quick question, anyone been induced with second? And anyone been induced and had natural birth?
Ive been looking on the net and found some horror stories of woman who were induced :nope:
I had a completely natural birth last time (went into spontaneous early labour at 41 weeks and 4 days and DD born in the night just at 41 weeks and 6 days) and really hoping for the same again, this time at home.
I have appointment to discuss induction at hospital in a few days, and planning to say if baby and me are perfectly well to ask to be induced next week at earliest (then being over 42 weeks)
Absolutely dreading the thought of having to be induced, it changes everything Ive been planning and hoped for  I'm so scared of docs and hospitals, drips, drugs and just want this baby and me to have a positive natural home birth the way nature intended.
Sorry long post!

I hope things get going for you soon! I was induced with my 1st, had a good labour and birth, I did have some gas and air but otherwise natural. Even if you do get induced it sounds like your body is in good shape for getting going, so you might just have a pessary inserted and that be enough to get things going.

I was induced with both. I didn't have any lasting effects other than the contractions being so much more intense. Good luck! I am also hoping this one comes on his own!

My first two started on their own and were born at 11 and 12 days late. I ended up being induced with my third at 13 days late. I too was terrified after hearing horror stories. But I had one pessary and promptly fell asleep for an hour and a half. My contractions started another hour or so later. My labour after that was almost identical to my daughter's which was a lovely experience. I used my tens machine for about two hours, maybe less and gas and air for under an hour. No tears, one stitch and no interventions. The contractions were no different from my labours which started spontaneously.
Good luck but try not to worry if you do have to be induced as it was absolutely fine.

I was induced at 42 weeks. A good experience, they just broke my waters and my labour was 4 hours. I was more prepared as knew what contractions felt like, felt much calmer than my first spontaneous labour. Don't panic xxx

I was induced at 33 weeks and it was a great experience! !!! I was absolutely petrified. Inductions fail often enough but inductions at 33 weeks?? Failuee waiting to happen.

But anyway. You need to ask lots of questions about their process of inductions and how willing they might be to deviate from the norm.

I was told they can start a number of ways

1. An unfavorable cervix preventing anyone from rupturing the membranes. So first they need to make your cervix favorable by inserting a prostalglandin like cervidil or propess. These are usually left in for 12hours. Then the next morning they usually break your waters and put you on the drip.

This option was how mine was to go because my cervix was highly unfavorable (being only 33 weeks) but it turns out a dose of cervidil was all i needed. It was inserted at 7pm and i gave birth at 2:30am avoiding all drips and monitoring and induction stuff, a completely natural birth and labour without any pain-meds. I was able to labour walking around and standing up and completely intervention free.

2. A slightly dialated cervix allowing rupturing of membranes then onto the drip

If this is to happen i would ask a number of questions but keep in mind hospitals around the world work very differently. A lot of hospitals are really psychotic about membranes rupturing and only allowing a small number of hours to give birth because of infection risk. My hospital when your membranes rupture naturally give you 72hrs before being induced as long as you're checked every 24hrs for signs of infection.

So i asked when/if my membranes rupture with the induction process can i have at least a decent amount of time to see if labour will kick off on its own.

I also asked if i end up on the drip, once contractions are going I'd like to turn the drip off and see if my body can continue on its own.

Seeing as you would be induced because your overdue i can't see why they wouldn't accomodate you. My induction was more a slight emergency so they weren't too willing to prolong a labour (ended up being quick anyway)

I know if im to be induced this time i pray for another cervidil induction. It felt like a natural labour and birth thay just had a thing inserted at the beginning

I was induced with dd and my labor progressed really nicely. Had the tablet overnight. In thr morning they broke my waters and I wasn't given an iv till I asked for epidural. I think I wouldn't have gotten one at all if I hadn't asked for epi. I was fully dilated by around noon and gave birth around an hour and a half later.

I sympathise because I went overdue with my 1st and was under pressure to induce. I did go into labour naturally in the end and got my home birth but it was a stressful few days of waiting. Dont give up yet because you still have a good chance of going into labour before you are induced. A lot of the horror stories are for early inductions. If you do end up being induced hopefully your body is ready for labour anyway so it has a good chance of going smoothly.
