I hate my boss and cannot wait to finish work. I was planning on working right up until the bambino is due but dont think i will make it to july without walking out!!!
My boss doesnt seem to think he is able to talk to me since I told him I was pregnant, he cut my hours down from 40 to 25 per week. I am responsible for the marketing in my company but for some reason if my boss has any queries about it he goes through the admin woman called Jane who then comes to me and asks me how its going then reports back to him!! It makes me feel like shit and I just dont know what his problem with is. I am wishing away the next few weeks cos I just cant face going in to work every day. The worst thing is now Im not going to get full maternity pay because my hours have been cut. Im so mad with him but dont know if it would actually help if I spoke to him about it. I feel like crying every day when I get up and cant face going in!!

Im thinking about starting my maternity leave at the end of May but just dont know what im going to do with myself!!

Is anyone else in a similar position??

Oh honey i totally understand! since i told my boss in Jan at 12 weeks he totally treated me differently, he's a total male chauvanist, i work in a high powered recruitment field all about the drinking and staying super thin arghh..., so he either totally ignoring me and has written me off, he's excluded me from nights out as i can't drink and made comments about my weight even though i've gone from a slim size 8 to a 10 and still in most of my normal clothes and not even in maternity ones at 24weeks! total nightmare and i feel for you i really do, where do this w**&kers get off making us feel so terrible! i'm leaving at 30weeks just got to get out of that negative environment not good for me or baby. Tell you what isn't helping is the economic climate especially being in the recruitment field so work is poor and company isn't doing weel at the mo which doesn't help. Finish work hon concentrate on yourself and your baby and enjoy your pregnancy, take some lovely summer walks and forget about them! all the best hon x

sweetie im in a similar position.( although full time student so part time work)
since finding out im pregnant, my hours have been cut so that i went from earning 90 odd a week to 20 odd a week.
meaning i'll be on MA rather than SMP.
plus there have been comments about firing me.
x

Helen, sorry you are experiencing this - can you please enlighten me as to what your contract is like as it seems unlawful for him to cut your hours that purely based on your being pregnant. That seems like sex discrimination and I am sure you would have a good case if you were to follow this legally. Can you ask him the reason for cutting your hours as I know a number of people who have successfully challenged their employers who were trying to get out of paying maternity pay. How long have you worked there etc. That is totally outrageous, it happened to me when I worked at reputable firm a number of years back and their HR decided not to give me a full time contract when they found out I was pregnant and yet the interview I went for was for a full time post. They said the reason was that I would get sick, so I said I would see them in a tribunal, they quickly backtracked.

I am confident you are legally protected here, I would have given you better advice just that I am off sick at the moment and all my law books are at work. I am a law lecturer although I dont particularly specialise in Employment Law, but am sure that (dependent on your contract if it isnt casual) that you can tell them you are seeking legal advice and here what they say

I know this is very stressful for you right now and following the legal route is equally stressful, however maybe if you whisper in their ear that what they have done is unlawful they might back track. It is so shocking that in this day and age there are such idiots who would make someone's life a misery for a power trip. Sorry about this hun

i was gonna leave work at 36 weeks, but coz my boss is a twat im going at 29, practically had to beg to be able to sit down, even with a note from my doctor

My god, seems like we are back in the dark ages!! I agree you need to stand up for your rights sounds like discrimination to me! Good luck and hope you get sorted!

Yeah my boss is male and being a complete a**e about things, he expects me to work until the week before the baby is due, we have recently had to take a pay cut and we have two unpaid days off a month and he has said that all appts that I have must be made within those days that I have been allocated to have off. He has also started ti treat me differently and make little comments and its really quite annoying.
Its a small office so not much can be done.

Jesus some people are horrible! I bet they'd be different if it was there wife or G/F that was pregnant.

Hope you all get things sorted out.

Thanks guys, I cant understand why he is being like this. The thing is, I kind of knew him before I started there. I know his sister, so this could make things awkward. think im going to work till about 32 weeks, about 5th June.

Mimiso - I started working there last June, so havent been there that long. He cut my hours due to the company being quiet and there not been enough work but only my hours were cut and no one elses. The thing is it hasnt even been that quiet, we seem to have quite a lot of work on at the moment so I cant understand it. I think it was an excuse because I am pregnant and I think it annoyed him cos I havent been there that long. Im getting really stressed about it and every day get home from work and cry.

I told him I was going to work right up till just before the baby is due but going to hand my form in this week and tell him im planning to leave earlier. If I stay there much longer its not going to do me or the baby any good. Im not planning on going back there anyway so i dont really care!! Because he was kind of a friend before I started there I dont really want to take things further as it would just cause problems between me and his sister.

xx

Big hugs you guys, seems you have some real shits for bosses :( I suppose i'm lucky, 1, that i work for a huuuge company (BT) and 2, that my boss has just had a baby so its all very fresh in his mind!! I've been off a number of times and he's been completely fine, makes me realise how lucky I am xx

Thats good for you hun. Theres not many out there. I think its really bad that they are like that. Not been funny but if they employ women they have to expect that one day they may want to have children!!!
