Hi all,

I came off of the BCP in August 2010. I've been actively trying to conceive now for 10 months! I know some people have irregular periods after stopping BCP, however I did not. I got my period right when I should have and have had very regular periods since. Most months I can tell I'm ovulating and others, not so much. So this cycle I decided to try using OPK's. I tested from cycle day 12 -17 and each time I only saw faint lines which the package says is negative. However this is one of those months when I haven't felt any symptoms of ovulation. I started Vitex this cycle as well as raspberry leaf tea. Has anyone tried it and had positive results?

What could I be doing wrong? I was drinking lots of coffee but I have drank nothing but decaf for the past month and a bit...well aside from the occasional cup of regular coffee..once every couple of days. Any insight anyone? I'm going crazy!

OPK's aren't always reliable! I wouldn't put all your eggs (har har) in that basket. Some women have REALLY short surges (4 hours!) so you may not be catching it. You can also get the digital tests online for cheap, so you don't have to rely on the hard to read lines. I have to start testing from CD 8 all the way through CD 30 sometimes :( but I've always caught that surge that way. :) Have you tried BBT? That should give you a really good idea of when you're ovulating. I would also look into checking your cervix everyday- I started last month and I could tell right away when I was about to get a positive OPK- it was crazy! I wouldn't be so concerned, you still have a few months to go before you "may" have a problem- but even then some doctors say 18 months is an average time to get pregnant with a fertile couple! I babysit for a family who has two kids- their daughter took 12 months on the nose to conceive, so they started early for their second- and got pregnant right away! I know how it is to freak yourself out, though. I do it too! Good luck, keep us posted! :) :)

Hang in there hun! We have been ttc since the end of 2009!! We found out last year (through our own research) that hubby was on meds that caused sperm probs. I had raised this with Drs before and was told that no 'official' reports had been done on the meds and so they could not really give us any advice! Changing his meds in Sept ended with a BFP in Nov! sadly ended in a miscarriage but it has given me some hope even though we are back at square one.

I know what you are going through, and I am going through the same right now if I am honest. I am pretty sure that our above scenario won't be relevant to you but it was just to highlight that sometimes you have to look out for yourself with regards to meds etc.

The other thing that changed in Nov (when I got my BFP) was that it was the first time I didn't even think about ttc since we had started trying!! I was waiting for my AF so that I could book a medical appointment, and when I tried to work out dates and when it was due it didn't add up. I did a test and was so shocked!! stupid really!

All I can advise hun is try and get your mind off it and not obsess too much as that will have the reverse effect. We are starting to ttc again this month and I am not even going to think about it. Yes I will know where I am in my cycle, and will pounce on DH at about the right time, but that is where it ends. Put your faith in nature and it will happen when the time is right for you.

Good luck hun and I hope that we all have our sticky beans very very soon.

xx

You're not alone in that boat. :) I also came off BCP in August 2010 and though my cycles only became regular in Dec/Jan, it's still been a long time!

Have you tried Digital OPK's? I found using them as a backup when I saw even the faintest of lines, was great. I found charting to be too much and really stressed both DH and I.

I echo pinkflamingo, know when you're going to ovulate and have sex around that time but also live your life! This is a new strategy to me though, took me about 8 months to get to it. ;)

Thanks for the imput ladies :) its nice to finally talk to people who are feeling what I'm feeling! Its sooo hard to stop obsessing because I want it soooo badly! I have been checking my cervix daily for this cycle..haven't notced much of a change except it seems a bit more out of reach.
