Hi Everyone,

I am so frustrated at the moment. I am 41+4 and my waters broke yesterday; my contractions started about 1am this morning and by 6am they were 5 minutes apart so i called the hospital and they asked me to go in. They checked me out and i was only 2cm dialated, so told to go home and come back when the contractions were 2-3 minutes apart.

We get home and i have a bath and some paras and try to get some sleep. The contractions started to get worse and hubby timed them through a one hour period; throughout the hour the contractions were about a minute in length and 2.30 mins - 3 mins between each one. Again, I called the hospital and was told to have another bath and then go in; 2 hours later i was checked and told that i was still only 2cm dialated and to go home and rest! Rest??? I'm in agony....so here i am, sat at home, having strong contractions every 2-3 minutes and i'm devastated. Has anyone had a similar experience?

Awww hun just wanted to send hugs your way. Just keep badgering the hospital sweetie or just turn up you know your own body not them :) xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx

That sounds a bit dodgy, it's not like you are 30 something weeks and miles off being due. I'd be kicking off if I were you....!

What is there reason, you should be in there not being sent home
kick up a fuss
there dont seem to be much care
goodluck

You can be 2cm for a while. You're not in established labour yet and thats why you've not been admitted. Although you think you're in agony, you probably aren't too bad just now (lets face it, you wouldnt be able to post on here if you were) so try and stay active. maybe go for a walk to try and get things going or bounce on a birthing ball.

:hugs: If I were you I would complain and demand to have something done. Obviously it is your time. Hopefully they get their heads out of their asses soon and you get taken care of properly. Good luck.

Aw i hope things get going for you soon, it must be so infuriating but blah11 is right they wont admit you until your in established labour, so if you can try to be active as this should hopefully help you to dilate further and you might find walking or bouncing on ball what ever your comfortable with, will help with the pain! Good luck and just try and focus on the fact that soon you will have your LO in your arms! :hugs:

When my waters broke last time round I immediately started getting contractions that lasted 45seconds and were coming every 1-2mins... we panicked and rushed to hospital and I was only 3cm! I was wounded... I stayed like that for hours despite the immense contractions that seemed constant. Totally know what you are going through. If it gets too much ring and tell them you cant cope, they have to let you come in and at least monitor babys at this stage of labour and after this length of time... if it goes on too long you will be too tired when it comes to pushing so dont be shy bloody tell them.

Good luck hunni, I will be checking back xx

I thought that they didn't send you home if your waters had broken. I've been told to go in if my waters break even if I have no contractions and that after that I won't be let home again even if not in established labour. Maybe it's different here (I live in Italy).

They let you go home again until you're either in labour or when they want to induce you (usually they let you go 2-3 days).

It is different in different areas, and probably different hospital regulations and practitioners too - for me, if my waters break I'm to be admitted, and I believe that is regular policy for the hospital and practitioners that I use. If I was pre-term, I'd go to the antenatal wing, but now I'd just go to the normal L&D wing. Might spend a bit more time in triage/walking the halls if I wasn't in established labor, but they would monitor the LO and the contractions and do various checks, even if I wasn't fully admitted yet.

That said, I've been sent home with both of my daughters, at 3cm. They tried to send me home a second time with DD2, but my OB was the oncall doc that night and they 'let' me stay until he could personally examine me. I told him I didn't want to go home without a baby ;) and he was able to tell that I was in fact more dilated than I had been at my appointment earlier that day. Baby was born 4 or 6 hours later - I lost track of time.

Sometimes you can be more comfortable at home though - so hang in there and try out any pain reduction techniques you have studied/practiced or just some new ones if you hadn't had any experience with them.

id take a bath, a walk or do anything but lie down for now then if nothing is getting more intense take some paracetamol and get an early night. my first labour was several days of strong contrations at anywhere from 2- 10 min apart and i wish i had rested and eaten properly during it. hope yours is shorter than mine

just because shes on here doesn't mean she's not in agony, who is anyone to say how much pain she is in.... people do have different levels of what and what they cannot take.

Does your hospital not have any policies on how long you should be left before being induced once your waters are gone?? At my hospital if your labour hasnt started by 24hrs after your waters are gone you are admitted and induced to reduce the risk of infection to yourself and the baby xx

You don't get women in good established labour updating us for a reason...

Hopefully shes had her LO by now :)

^^ WSS

I remember my labour being very simular i was in agony for days! arh! I thought i was being mega brave and expected when i went in to be at least 8cms, lol, i was 1cm and i was that at my MWs appt a few days before. lol!

Unless you have a epi you wont be updating when established labour begins.

Its hard when you have a low slow labour like that though, i was so exhusrted, some people dont actually feel them until they are much further along, i wish mine was like that.

i ended up being admitted when i was just over 3cms and had pethidine and TENS, i found when i was able to relax and rest a bit my labour speeded up loads, but becuase i was so tense and upset that i wasnt progressing and already in so much pain i just didnt seem to progress.

I hope yours goes quickly now :hugs: i know how frustrating it is, it will get more intense, stronger, longer and painful, but i found when i was able to relax and go with it it was much easier than my early labour. Its weird, it def was worse but much better too.

Good luck hun hope you have yoru baby in your arms now :hugs:
