Here you can wear what you want. They have gowns as well. They do suggest something button up so you can do skin to skin. I've hear many stories that women are so hot and so restricted, they end up being naked by the end of it.
here in the us, it is an ugly hospital gown that snaps up the back and generally 5 times too big for you. i was just thinking about that today. i really hope they will let me keep on a sports bra. but i think they prefer pretty much nothing in case something goes wrong, they have full access to you. like if i were wearing a sports bra and they needed to get to my chest, it would be in the way. i have seen several ladies talk about bringing their own gown as long as it's the right style the hospital will approve.
ive always taken in a nice nightie but that ends up right round my neck because of me moving and internals etc, you get really hot so i ended up in just my bra last time so when my son was born he was delivered straight on to my chest x
Yeah, in about 95% of hospitals in the US, you can bring your own gown, but only if it is the same style as the one provided by the hospital. They probably won't let you wear your sports bra underneath though. That's it. The only thing you'll be wearing is the gown. At least until you deliver the baby.
I wore a little strappy nighty last time, was under the impression you could wear whatever you wanted(UK) as there was no mention of a gown at all. Planning on the same this time as it was strappy enough to allow skin to skin straight away and was cool enough. X
I'm hoping for a water birth so bikini top or bra, but if I'm on 'dry land' I plan to labour in a loose nightie (cheapy primark one cos it's likely to get messy!).
I brought loads of lovely cheap nighties to birth in but they all ended up on the floor because I was too hot!! The labour ward in the hospital I had DD in was like a furness!!! I don't know what every other labour ward in the country is like but I suggest taking a hand held fan or something because I didn't get one intill DD's head was half out (Sorry if TMI) & I had been asking for one from the minute I walked into the ward
Anywho... I had a water birth and I just had a sports bra on. Made skin 2 skin easier
with my 3 daughters labour/births i always started off wearing a long top but by the time babys being born have either been wearing just a bra or nothing at all!!!
great for skin to skin contact for first cuddles and also you just get so hot bothered and dont really care about dignity lol
Most people I know have started in a huge mens t-shirt or shirt, a nightie or a hospital gown but have ended up naked because it's too hot and fiddly. My sister is the prudest, body conscious person I know and if she ended up naked I probably will too. She pinched a hospital bed sheet to cover her and baby straight afterwards.
Just going to take a light baggy button nighty from Primark and chuck it off if I get too hot. I also have non wired sleep bra thingies and comfy cotton seamess pants/boxers to cover up a bit if I want the nightie off but feeling self conscious in the early stages. Got them from Peacocks for £2.00 each if anyones interested.
xxx
ah yeah i was going to get some of those sleep bras from peacocks too... as for what i'm going to wear during labor - if i'm allowed i'll wear just a loose fitting long vest top or boobtube type thing but i'm sure we're made to wear a gown or go in the buff
I wore a strappy nightie, it was only a cheapie one as I knew it'd get covered in all sorts lol! I found it really comfy, as I didnt wanna be naked and cant stand the gowns!
With it beong loose and strappy it was really easy to get open for skin to skin contact and to brest feed within minutes of her being born x
I've bought a strappy nightie as it's quite floaty, long enough and is stretchy for skin to skin, breast feeding etc. My midwife at antenatal classes said about getting something comfy to wear so I ended up in matalan trying on every nightie they had!
I panicked so much about this and ended up packing 4 different things to wear to cover all possibilities and then ended up forgettin gto get changed.
Trust me when the time comes you wont care, most have got their bare butt sticking up in the air and some even walk up and down the corridor naked, you just dont care your mind is very much elswhere
I reccomend a loose fitting nightie or long baggy tshirt, the baggy top things that you can put over swimming costumes when on holiday are ideal
