The Mayan calendar is going to end. But that really doesn't mean Earth is going to explode or anything. Had the Mayans still been around, they would just have started a new calendar. Our calendar ends on the 31st of December, but no one expects the world to end on that day.

The way I see it, what is meant by the end of the world, is that we are going into a new spiritual age. The world is changing, and not for the worse. (cos frankly it can hardy get any worse)

I really can't stand the medias that promote that silly idea that the world will end in a week. There are people who get really really scared, and it's not fair, cos it's all a lot of b*******!

I completely agree, over the years, peoples predicitions have caused themselves to take their own lives. How dreadful is that?!

Well I'm kinda hoping it really doesn't happen it's my birthday on the 22nd and as much as I am dreading becoming another year older I really want my night out on the 21st as its been months!!!

I read that the Mayans were actually predicting the end of an "age". That the world as we know it was ending and is transforming into the "____ age". It's up to us to figure out what that age will be known as... The age of compassion? The age of renewal? The age of consumerism?

I hope we can change oír course, otherwise it isn't going to take an asteroid to obliterate our planet... We will end it ourselves.

Seriously I am sick of all the crap about this date. Yes the Mayan calendar ended but that doesn't mean we all die. It is the end of an era/age and we are entering the golden age. It means whatever you want it to mean (in terms of what life we are entering, life is what you make of it.)

Also, it means the calendar starts over just as the one on our walls and in all of our cellular devices/computers etc do. Also they didn't account for leap years so going by the Mayans we should have all died years ago.

As a PP stated, I remember y2k (and billions of other "predictions") where they said the end was coming. And nothing happened. (Surprise, surprise!!) Last year was supposed to be another end of the world, and again nothing happened. There were scares before the year 2000 too. There was one back in the late 80's, and that never happened either. See the trend people?

if what happened, end of the world? we wouldnt know before hand first of all. it would just happen. i have had this debate numerous times. predictions are just that, predictions. how you take it is up to you. but everything "they" said would happen has been debunked just using common sense. even the prophet wouldn't know when the end was coming, if you read the bible (you meaning generally not anyone specific) you would know that only god knows when the true end will be and again, it would just happen.

ETA - thats not to say that NOTHING will happen. a war could happen, natural disaster etc. but the stuff they are saying thats linked to the mayan calendar ending is a crock.
