Hey Ladies,

At the moment, am highly confused and emotional!

I was made reduntant 10 weeks in tomy pregnancy and havent been able to find another job. Not many people want to employ someone who is pregnant with twins!

So i went down the old route of signing on JSA - and at each appointment they have said, at 29 weeks, u will need to go straight on to Income Support! So we would be entilled to the Sure Start Grant. YAY!

Turns out they dont no S**T!:growlmad:

Having just spent over an hour on the phone, i am not entilled to Income Support becuase i have a husband, nor am i entillled to Income Related JSA so i cant get the Sure Start Grant!

Am now kinda feeling really scared!:nope:

We have no savings - who does now adays!

My husband works 60 a weeks and gets £300 a week!

We have a mortgage, rent, council tax, none of which we get help for becuase they reckon my partner earns too much!!!!:growlmad:

We dont have any loans or credit card thank god becuase we jsut about have enough to pay the above. We struggle with food shopping!!!

The person on the phone 'thinks' i can claim MA.
My question is, does anyone know if iwould be able to get the Sure Start Grant once our twins are here??

I have used to the online calulator for CTC and WTC and it has come up that we are entilled to £21.00 CTC and no WTC.

Any help would be great.

Am trying to stay calm about it all but am so worried about not being to give my children even the simple things like somewhere to sleep or a pushchair!!!!

First of all don't panic, easier said than done i know

Firstly the tax credit's calculator works out what you're entitled to in this tax year, and there's only 2 weeks of it left. Did you base your information on the now or what you expect when you've had the twins?

This site https://www.entitledto.co.uk/ is very good for working out all your entitled benefits, including housing benefit. Have a look and see if it helps

Edit: i forgot to add, you can get the Sure Start Grant if the Child Tax Credit you receive is higher than the Working Tax credit you receive, and this can be claimed up to 3 months after you've had the babies

Just to add as your expecting twins you can claim the sure start grant as long as you earn under 60k a year I think. And its £500 per baby. Have a look in the twins section of the forum for Vicky's post about the sure start grant :) xxx

I'm not sure about that to be honest unless its changed in the last year as I couldn't claim the sure start grant and my husband earns less than 60k, i hope its changed though hun!

You can get a Sure Start Maternity Grant if you or your partner receive any of the following:

•Income Support
•income-based Jobseeker's Allowance
•income-related Employment and Support Allowance
•Pension Credit
•Child Tax Credit at a rate higher than the family element
•Working Tax Credit where a disability or severe disability element is included in the award
and if one of the following applies to you:

•you or your partner are pregnant and expecting a baby within 11 weeks or have given birth within the last three months
•you or your partner have adopted a child, or in certain circumstances have been granted a residence order for a child, within the last three months and the child is less than one year old
•you and your husband or wife have been granted a parental order for a surrogate birth within the last three months
•you or your partner are getting benefit for a dependant under the age of 20 who is pregnant and expecting a baby within 11 weeks or has given birth within the last three months

I think it's only if you are on certain benefits, as above
so if you've been turned down for benefits, you wont get it I'm afraid.
Sounds like you will be able to claim maternity allowance

for MA you dont need to be working now you just need to of worked for the 26 weeks of the 66 weeks leading to the week your baby is due. dont no if that helps
