I am new to the cloth diaper world, and have gotten 15 diapers w/ liners and will be buying more, but I have a few things I could use some help on first!

The first question was do the ebay cheapies last or should I go with the brand names/ more expensive?

The second is, are the one size good or would you recommend the fitted? So far I only have gotten the one size.

And, did you use disposables during the nb stage when they were too small for the one size, or did you get some just for a newborn? I had been planning on just using disposables until LO fits in the cloth, but would rather not if we don't have to!

I had a huge newborn stash, honestly I wish I had just skipped newborn cloth and done disposables. Even the newborn cloth didn't fit him until his cord fell off and he wasn't tiny or anything, and when they did fit they were still so bulky he looked uncomfortable, we barely used our newborn stash and I had 80 lol. It was nice to have them all sitting though because I resold them for our entire small-one size stash and even used that money to buy a brand new ergo carrier and had money leftover haha. Next time though I'll skip newborn and start with smalls-one size

Personally I like sized diapers better for going out, they are more trim and fit better under clothes. I really like pockets/aio for going out too. Our favorites are BumGenius AIO (the sized are now discontinued though but you could get them used) or small fuzzi bunz.

I really love some cheapies...Sunbaby in particular but Alva are good too but run a bit bigger...both are one size though. I have only been using them with Preston (who is almost 4mo) but I really think they will last just as long as our name brand. The Sunbaby especially are very good quality, I just got the alva so not as much use on those they don't feel quite as nice as sunbaby but still really good

I'm not really a fan of the ebay cheapies but loads of people are so I would just try some out and see what you think.

I think it's best to have a mix of different types of nappies. One size nappies are great because you know they should accommodate your growing child so can work out to be cost effective, but sized nappies tend to be trimmer. Also bear in mind that as a child grows, they can change shape and nappies that previously fitted perfectly can stop working so well for a while. We used Flips from 4 months to around 12 months when they started rubbing my LO's legs, but then at around 18 months they suddenly started working again, so it was great that we had other nappies we could use during that time.

I also have a 6 week old and we have used cloth from birth. I'm happy that she's not worn a sposie yet! I bought mostly newborn/small AIOs like Teenyfits, Lil Joeys and Bambooties with a few fitteds and wraps. We used mostly the AIOs for the first couple of weeks and they worked well. I considered trying her in my toddler's one-size nappies but they were just comically big next to her, with the exception of Tuttos which were bulky but fit well on the smallest setting. My LO was 7lb4oz so pretty average. Now, I'm selling all the AIOs and have stocked up on small fitteds and wraps as they work the best on her and I still think one-size nappies would be a bit big/bulky on her. I'll probably move to one-size nappies when she would be ready for medium size fitteds and not bother buying more sized ones unless there's a nappy I particularly like the look of.

So as you can see from both mommyof3co's experience and mine, it really depends a lot on you and your baby. Some babies won't even be big enough for newborn sized nappies but others will be perfect in them. I would recommend buying sized nappies preloved where you can to save a bit of money. As they're sized so don't get used for as long as OS nappies, they tend to be in great condition.

1) We used disposables for the newborn stage because everything was so new and overwhelming at that point. Even with #2 coming in December, we're still planning on using disposables at least for the first couple weeks. I don't have the money to buy an entire newborn stash and plus they go through like 8-10 diaper changes a day!! (And that's not including the night lol) My son was over 9lbs when he was born so if this one is large too, it won't be too long until he can most one size diapers. I hear a lot of people say that OS diapers are super bulky on newborns so we plan to wait until the 10-12lb mark before starting on cloth.

2) E-bay cheapies worked for us up until our son became mobile. At that time they just couldn't keep up with his constant motion and would always leak out the edges. I only ever tried pocket e-bay cheapies though so I can't speak for all of them. I dislike pocket diapers in general though....

3) I like one size diapers because you can use them on multiple babies in the house (that's the plan for when #2 arrives.....just ordered some more OS diapers too, can't wait!!), so it's less expensive. That being said, not everyone likes them because they don't always cater perfectly to skinny, chunky, tall, short, etc. babies. Fitteds are a lot more suited to a specific type of baby but you do have to then buy enough in each size.

The first question was do the ebay cheapies last or should I go with the brand names/ more expensive?
I have about 12 ebay cheapies. I liked them when DD was smaller (say 4-8 months) and then she started out-weeing them. I mainly use big name brands now but keep the ebay cheapies for around the house. You can only try them and see how you get on, you may need to upgrade but some people get on fine with them and use all the way through toddlerhood.

The second is, are the one size good or would you recommend the fitted? So far I only have gotten the one size. I have a combo of both. One size for value and sized for some fancy nappies and going out under pretty outfits.

And, did you use disposables during the nb stage when they were too small for the one size, or did you get some just for a newborn? I used sposies, mainly because I just didn't get into cloth until DD was 3/4 months. I haven't yet decided on what I will do for next baby. I think I will probably start with sposies for the first few weeks and then switch.
