Now I know why estate agents are one of the most hated people in Britain.

The house we are renting is up for sale so we have had some people viewing it when arranged with the agent when is convieniant for us, but today I was bathing my daughter and I hear a knock at the door, can't answer it as obviously I am busy, next thing I hear voices, look downstairs into the hall and the f***ing estate agent has let themselves into the property with an old man to view it. Neither me or my husband were informed. Surely this is breaking and entering?! :grr: I had to stop what I was doing and asked the woman what the hell she thought she was doing letting herself into my house without concent, her reply was 'Well I did knock' and then had the cheek to ask if she could proceed to let the man have a look around.

Sooooooooooo angry right now!!!!!! :growlmad::growlmad::growlmad: I am making a formal complaint.

holy ****. rude, cheeky etc. i would have slapped her tbh. we were renting a few yrs back and the house was up for sale. they had to give me 2 days notice if they were showing the house. if i wasnt there ie at work i would tell them not to come. report her to the boss or even the landlord.

Exactly! I am so shaken up by this! Trust me I wanted to slap her I was shaking with anger. Can't believe she justified it with 'well I did knock' - doesn't mean you let yourself in!!! Even if you are in and don't answer it obviously means your busy which I was. I am so livid as I could have been in the bath or shower etc!! It wasn't an arranged viewing anyway! Aghh!

Bloody hell I would have gone mental!!!! did you let them proceed? I would have told the lot of them to fuck off!! xx

Complain to everyone. Your landlord, the agent and the agents head office if they have one.

What agency was she from?

imagine if you were in the bath or
on the loo, how bloody rude :growlmad:

i'd be complaining to everyone too
you can't just let yourself into someones house

how unprofessional

:nope:

No I told her to get out. They are called Stephens Estate Agents.
I was so shaken up I got my dad to ring the manager as he knows the law inside and out, he has threatened legal action we will be taking this further as we have had other problems with them too but nothing to this degree.
Seriously it is not nice someone just walking into your house with a stranger especially when I am bathing my little girl.

ooo not good she has broken the law, report her to the angency, the landlord and ring CAB.. nobody has the right to enter your property without your permission even if 24/48hours notice is given.. I would also tell yoru agent/landlord that since you obv cannot trust the agents you will be changing the locks and will put the old ones back in once you have left the property as you are fully in your rights to do this and they have no right to have a copy.

I have told them no more viewings now, and we have been very fair with them allowing them up until now. She replied that in my contract it says I must allow viewings - it's not the point though is it, she just walked in!!! :growlmad:

Yes, she has broken the law.

You have the right to 'Quiet Enjoyment' while in your home. The clause in the contract about allowing viewings is unenforcable. Write them a letter stating that you will not be allowing viewings for the forceable future due to the behaviour of this woman, and get the barrel of the lock changed. It should cost about £5 to do this, and as long as you change it back when you leave you are well within your rights to do this.

As said above^^ no matter what it says in your contract it wont hold up plus it would cost them wayyy to much to take you to court anyway just to be told to leave you alone and they get charged for entering your property without your permission

Will def be doing the lock thing, I feel very vulnerable right now and not at all secure knowing someone thinks they can just walk into my home.
Read the contract and that says to allow viewings with notice to tenent 2 months prior to leaving - we have to be out by June. Also states very clearly about as said above the quiet enjoyment thing and no intervention whatsoever from the landlord or agent.

Whatever it says in the contract about allowing viewings is totally unenforecable, just ignore it. Change the locks, and if the letting agent complains to you about not being able to get in then call the police and report them for attempting to break and enter.

So many letting agents think they can get away with anything...
