This might sound stupid but I really want to understand how it works. So until you ov your cervix is closed, but how does the sperm get in? Coz they say to have sex before you ov an speem can last up to so many days but where does it hang around til you ov?

I just wondering out loud.... ;0)

Your cervix will start to open and become higher a few days before ovulation. And sperm can live inside of you for 3 to 5 days.

That's why most doctors will tell you to have sex for several days before and after when you think you ovulated. :)

You are actually fertile a few days before ovulation. During that time the cervix begins to open and you produce watery cm that helps move the sperm through the cervix. You may not always see the cm but it is there at the cervix.
Ovulation is purely the egg being released so you want to be sure there are sperm waiting for egg.
