Hiya, this is my second pregnancy, and I’ve suffered with a slipped disc for years. I’m currently 15 weeks and I’ve got sciatica in my leg and am starting to get SPD again. (I had It in my first pregnancy) I’ve been prescribed codeine for the sciatica which I have been taking. I didn’t want to because I didn’t want to cause any harm to my baby but after three weeks of being pain I didn’t have much of a choice. I’ve been referred to Physio at the hospital but when I had SPD in my last pregnancy I was given a pregnancy belt and crutches. (The belt I was told to only wear while standing, which doesn’t help as I work sitting down for eight hours a day).

My question is has any one had SPD or Sciatica in pregnancy and how did you deal with it and how did Physio deal with you? I’ve been to Physio about four time in the last ten years and each time ive been told to exercise and lose weight to help my sciatica. Kinda hard when you are pregnant. I'm in so much pain I can hardly work or look after my toddler. Its getting me so depressed, I just want to enjoy my pregnancy.

Any one been referred to another department which was more helpful, seeing my midwife next week so hopefully she will be able to help me too but I’ll take any advise at the mo.

Thanks xxx

I am suffering from sciatica now, but have for many years. A little over 1 year ago, I had a spinal fusion and that relieved the pressure off of the sciatic nerve. At this time, I am just doing some 'nerve glides' and other physical therapist exercises for it. :( Unfortunately, my nerve is damaged so there is no going back to the no pain zone. Hope you get some relief... the worst thing you can do is to lay dormant, it will make it hurt worst. Try to move constantly but not overdo it.

I had pgp with dd2, and the physio gave me a bump belt and series of post natal exercises on a sheet to do. Bit useless really.

If it plays up again I'm going for a private physio session as I waited months for nhs.
