My dd has just turned 3 and has a speech delay- she still babbles like her 1 year old brother. She is also exhibiting some possible symptoms of ASD. We have an appointment with a pediatrican next week- does anyone know what the process is? Will she get a diagnosis there and then? Or is it just the start of the process? :flower:

Hey,

I'm from coventry so I dont know differently they do things here or if its a national procedure they follow! My DD is now 5 and doesn't have a diagnosis, although she has global developmental delay and autistic traits! When she was 2 she got referred to the dhild development unit, where I went every day for 2 weeks and she was monitored by specialist in, almost a nursery room! She also saw a paediatrician there! After she had another thing at the CDU which was every weds for 6weeks where she was around like children, 2 of them got diagnosed with autism then as they were quite bad! Since then she had pre-school ed come out every week to the house to do learning things with her until she went to nursery! The the SALT and OT appointments started! Come reception they decided she needed a special needs statement as she was still behind! That came just 2 days before the summer hols started and she's got into a special needs school! The statement took half a year and I'm very lucky she got one as they are like gold dust atm! She also was seeing physio, Education psychologist, had a biopsy and bloods taken, and is now seeing a genetics clinician! She is still without a diagnosis! I think it depends on how serious it may be, and if they can be sure as they don't like diagnosing so young! But even without a diagnosis you should still get plenty of help like I have done! Sorry its so long, its been a long process :( finally getting sorted though :) xx

Wow, that must have been an exhausting time! I'm just trying to prepare myself for tomorrow- I'm finding it all so stressful, I'm so scared for her
Thanks for replying xx

good luck for today hun, let me know how it went. yeh it was very exhausting at the start but then you just get used to it, its second nature after a while. the average child probably rarely has hospital appointments planned, i knew at least 3 appointments that she'd have coming up all the time, sometimes more! right now she only has 2, one in august and one in december, they are getting alot less :) try not to be too nervous, she'll be fine whatever the outcome :) xx
