So we have a list of about 20 girls names, the list is constantly changing!

We recently added Alyxandra to the list. I have had some negative comments about the spelling. Do you see an issue with it? We understand it is not traditional and we like that.

Alyxandra vs. Alexandra

I'm not a fan of the Alix/Alyx spelling because in my head, it changes the pronunciation. I would pronounce Alyxandra with the y sound, as in Styx. And that just sounds like someone trying to say Alexandra but not quite getting it right to me. Sorry.

I really dislike the alternate spelling you have suggested. Sorry! She'll forever be correcting people on the spelling, too.

Alexandra here too (I'm a Sandra and I have a DD Alex) I'm not a fan of messing with the original Alexandra either, it just looks lovely and feminine

I really can't stand names where people take a previous vowel and put a 'y' in it's place, so for me it looks weird and I would read it as 'al-likes-andra'.

Alexandra or the poor kid will be saying "Alexandra with a y" her entire life.

I'm not opposed to subbing "y" for "i" but it doesn't work as /ɛ/, the short e sound, unless you like the pronunciation Al"oo"xandra or al"i"kxandra.

Sorry but I really do not like the alternative and honestly, to me it looks a bit silly. Alexandra is much nicer!

I much prefer Alexandra. I don't like changing the spellings in names unless it's something like Aidan/Aiden etc
