I absolutely adore the older Irish spelling Aislinn, but here in US it would never be pronounced correctly.

We've agreed on the name, just not the spelling.

What would you choose?

Aislinn
Ashlyn
Ashlynn
Ashlin
Ashlan
Ashlinn
Ashlen
Etc.

I'd probably just go for Ashlyn, the other spellings just look like made up names.

I would go with the traditional spelling, it's part of the charm imo. I agree it'll be mispronounced but at least it's not being mispronounced because you've randomly made up a spelling. To me it's much different saying "actually it's pronounced _____" when someone doesn't know how to pronounce a traditional name than having to tell someone how to pronounce a name that's been butchered. :haha:

I'd go with the traditional spelling as it's all part of what makes the name what it is. I've had to spell my name and correct people forever but people always comment on how different it is/where it comes from etc. It's quite nice to have a slightly different name!

I would also go with the original, it's great!!

Another vote for the original. Even if you pick a phonetic name unless people recognise it they'll probably ask how to spell it

I'm Irish and here it can be spelt either;

Aislinn
Aishlinn
Aisling

I prefer Aislinn
