Ok ladies I did every thing around stalking this site when I was pregnant so I'm hoping for some help again. My sister is 19 weeks with her first baby. I took her to the doctor yesterday for just a routine appointment and they did a ultrasound, when the doctor talked to her she said there is a small spot on the baby's heart and that could mean DS. They sent blood work off to have more testing done and will have those results friday. We won't know anything for sure until she's 28 weeks when they do another ultrasound. That's over 2 months away and she is worried sick and so I am to be honest. I have never heard of this...
Looking for happy ending stories! Anyone heard of this before?
Of course that beautiful baby girl is going to be loved regardless but no one wants to see their child suffer or even think their child is suffering. My sister has been through so much and is on her own unfortunately because the dad is a POS and couldn't handle settling down.
Good vibes and prayers are much appreciated also. TIA

I don't have any experience, but maybe place this thread in the Gestational Complications area, there are so many ladies there with so much knowledge and experience and its helped with issues I have had.... Good luck to your sister!

With my first pregnancy, they thought my son had a spot on his heart and it turned out to be nothing. It wasn't there at the next scan. I hope everything turns out okay for your sister. :)

I don't have any experience with this but I didn't want to read and run. I will keep you and your sister in my thoughts and prayers. <3 :hugs:

I'm not sure where you are located, but there are noninvasive tests (simple blood draw from the mother) that can very accurately diagnose or rule out Downs. It only takes.1-2 weeks to get results. There are several.similar ones (Harmony, Panorama, Verifi, etc.) that may be worth asking her.doctor about.

"Spot on the heart" seems like a very vague and worrisome thing for the doctor to just leave.hanging out there.for 2 months worth of worry. It may be nothing at all, but she should push for a little better explanation.

With my 3rd son, he had an echogenic foci on his heart, found at 20 weeks. They also told me was a marker for Downs, but he had no other markers. I had also already had the Verifi test done at 12 weeks and that came back normal so we were fairly certain it wasn't an issue. The "spot" was still there at 28 weeks and then when he was born they did an echo on him right in hospital and that came back fine. He was born perfectly healthy and normal. Hope this helps.
