We started on Monday with just lunchtime and everything she puts in her mouth, she gags and then throws up and then carries on putting the food in her mouth when the same happens again.
Today is the 4th day of her trying food and I don't think she has actually swallowed anything yet. She just sucks at it. The only thing she wasn't sick on was a breadstick.

Hey what foods have you tried her on?

She's tried quite a bit already.. Carrots, parsnips, corn, banana, pear, toast, breadsticks, scrambled egg, rice cakes, a meatball (shaped like a sausage), a stick of cheese. I think that's it. She has been a little better today and spent a lot of time sucking her food but didn't really swallow anything.

You'll probably have this for a few weeks yet, don't forget our babies don't know anything different from a bottle or a boobie so it's strange to them. Keep up though you've had a great start :)

I meant to say its good that she is putting it in her mouth, our first few weeks consisting of a lot of dropping.

I BLW my LO at 5.5 months and he didn't begin actually eating until around 6.5. He was sick a couple of times - it's their gag reflux as it's so far forward at this age. Just keep persevering, she will get it eventually.

Rio does this. Gags and throws up! Or actually chokes and needs help bringing it up! Scares me but I've been told to just carry on or he will never learn. We went out for a meal yesterday and rio was sucking on some of my naan bread, and then gagged and threw up all over the high chair he was in. But picked up the bit he brought back up and tried to eat it again!!! He just doesn't care lol x

It sounds normal, I know it's not a nice thing to watch them gag at first but they get the hang of it. Stick with it. We're doing BLW and in the past week or so my baby is really starting to understand what to do with food. It's lovely to watch when they get to that point!

Just keep doing what you're doing :) I wouldn't even check or think about whether LO has swallowed anything, that's not what you're aiming for. You're looking for LO to learn about shapes, textures and tastes, to practise moving food around in the hands and/or mouth... and mostly, to have a bit of fun. If you just carry on, LO will learn in her own time. I certainly wouldn't put any time limits on it at this stage... I wouldn't even consider changing anything for a good 6 months yet!

Yep, that's perfectly normal. My daughter swallowed a bit after about 2 weeks, but it wasn't really for a month that I saw much besides the odd bit of broccoli come out the other end. All that gagging and being sick is just part of the process of her learning a new skill. It's not damaging in anyway and it's not bothering her (or else she wouldn't continue to eat after). Just carry on. She'll get it soon. Sounds like it's all going well for your first few days.

My LO is doing the same and she is 9ms. Started her on puree's at 6ms, and gradually getting more chunks, but she does not handle chunks well, she gags and has vomited a few times. Then she is not interested in the food after that. Think it scares her. Can get frustrating at times, because I want to make sure she is eating enough, and learning to gum the food up into smaller pieces to swallow. When she gags or chokes it scared me!
