Starting Clomid

Crazy! Hopefully they are able to get it figured out. Or AF shows before you have to call :haha: Yup my first day was today, taking it in the morning was definitely better for me. I was dizzy for a while but walking around work doing a "drunk sway" was much better than insomnia :haha: I just noticed that our little guys have close birthdays! Asher just turned 5 on July 6th! How are you feeling about the age gap??

Good news, in a way, AF has finally showed :happydance: So I'm starting Clomid tomorrow, days 2-6.

Oh Sarah that is great news!

Okay a little bit of catch up here :haha: Yes I am being monitored this cycle, DH and I have decided to do IUI this cycle since we will be taking a 4 month break from fertility treatments after this cycle. I definitely didn't plan the age gap, I would've loved to have children close together but me and my sons father didn't stay together so I was waiting for the right guy to come along haha. I could've written your post myself though on thoughts on the age gap. It will be nice that they are so independent and understand but oh my gosh I already did diapers and potty training and everything else why go back?! :haha: It will be totally worth it once it happens!!

Ah I see. I think any kind of age gap has its pros and cons though. Well I'm 3 hours post first Clomid tablet and so far so good, no symptoms that I'm noticing anyway!

Hi I took mine on a morning and the side effects weren't too bad. I had a few hot flashes and was a bit moody haha. It's 5 days (almost 6 ) since my last clomid pill and my opks are getting darker. I've had cramping tonight so I'm getting excited ! How you getting on? xxx

That all sounds very positive for you! I'll be keeping everything crossed for you!

I've not been able to start my Clomid yet as AF still hasn't showed since my last Provera  so I'm just waiting!

Hi how are you getting on? I'm 5dpo now so just a waiting game x

How are you doing??

My ultrasound is tomorrow so hopefully I will have good news to report! Last month I had 4 follicles but only one was even close to maturity and that was at 15mm. Really hoping for 2-4 mature follicles this month! Praying it isn't more than 4 though because then my doc will cancel the cycle haha

Hey, how did the ultrasound go?

I'm due mine in 2 days so have fingers crossed that I've responded well to the Clomid. I had CRAZY visual disturbances on the evening of my last 2 Clomid tablets though!

It's amazing the way the clomid affects different people! I'm excited for your U/S!

My ultrasound showed 4 follicles at 17, 15, 13, and 11. They were very happy with the 17 and they thought the 15 might go as well. Last month my largest was a 15 and they were okay with that so I'm hoping I got two! I had pains on my right side during ovulation and the 15, 13, and 11 were on the right side so I am hopeful! My IUI was yesterday and DH's count was 275 million after the wash with 98% motility so we are feeling very optimistic!!

Hi everyone, I hope I'm ok to jump in here.

I feel a bit of a fraud posting in the LTTTC forum. It's been 9 months. It feels like a long time, but I know compared to many, 9 months isn't much.

Anyway, I have PCOS, but I seem to ovulate on my own. Each cycle I get a temp rise but my cycles are about 37 days. Last cycle I got my BFP, but it ended in an 'early loss'. Last month we saw a fertility specialist for testing. I have to do a CD 30 progesterone test this cycle, but as you can see from my chart, I haven't ovulated. Most likely from the loss last cycle.

At my last appointment the fertility specialist wasn't interested in because he said I ovulate, regardless of how late in my cycle, it's still ovulation. Therefore, he said he wouldn't prescribe Clomid.

However, firstly, I'm not ovulating this cycle (so who knows if he will prescribe it now) and secondly, I know Clomid is prescribed for unexplained infertility.

I'm feeling really unsure about what's in store. DH and I are both frustrated. Do any of you ovulate on your own and have any advice? Thanks.

I showed no response to the 50mg Clomid, only a few follicles on my left ovary and they were all under 10 :nope: so it's on to 100mg next cycle.

Hey! Welcome to the thread. Sorry for your loss :hugs:

I don't ovulate on my own hence the Clomid and I also can have cycles well over 300 days if I let it go that long.

I think if you are ovulating on your own then by temping you should get a good idea of when to DTD so to speak.

Sorry I don't have much advice for you.xx

If I were you I would get a second opinion. I ovulate on my own without any diagnosis of pcos or otherwise and my doctor prescribed clomid for the purpose of getting more than one egg so we could increase our odds in that way. I also know someone else that was prescribed clomid for better quality eggs. There are plenty of reasons to prescribe clomid but it seems like your doc doesn't believe in that

Don't feel bad about being in ltttc, I know what you are feeling, it is scary to do and even at a year it doesn't feel right when other ladies have waited so much longer. But in the end we are all going through the same struggle :flower:

So sorry about the 50mg :hugs: I was so mad when I didn't respond the way I thought I would to the 50 but have to remember it is a learning process. Once you get the dosage right things should progress nicely

So Clomid does not work??? that's so so sad... I've heard that Clomid is called a miracle drug for those who're trying to conceive... this is not true? :(

It definitely works it is just that some people need a stronger dose but they generally start with the lowest dose and increase it as they need to until they get the right dosage for the person

Thank you ladies.

Sarah, I've been temping since February this year. We've been able to time BDing very well each cycle. I'm sorry about the 300 day cycles, that sounds incredibly frustrating. All the best.

Todmommy, thank you. I had heard that Clomid can be used to increase your chances of conceiving regardless of whether you O or not. Unfortunately this doctor isn't going to help us until we've reached the 12 month mark unless I'm not Oing or there's a problem with DH's SA. I know I won't O this cycle and we aren't sure of the SA results. If we get to November and this doctor won't help us, we will definitely be getting a second opinion.

My brother and sister in law had a lot of trouble getting pregnant. I think it was a combined issue. They tried for a long time, went through multiple IVF cycles and now have a 9 year old daughter. This was before DH and I met. We are thinking about talking to them about it but she's still pretty sensitive about it and could play the "you're not LTTTC, you have no idea" card. I hope not though.

I think talking to your sister would be helpful. If she is still sensitive about the subject though you could just start in the boards, there are plenty of threads that you can get information and personal experience from :hugs:

Thanks, I think she'd be ok if we can speak with them face to face. My DH knows a little more than I do about their journey and how to approach it.

At this stage we don't know what's going to happen next and I'm not a fan of uncertainty!

I saw your thread and wanted to come on and wish you luck :dust: hopefully clomid at the next dose will be all you need but if not there is still plenty more than can be done. Clomid on the highest dose and tamoxifen didn't work for me but I had ovarian drilling and 5 months plus 2 cycles of clomid later I got my bfp after 4 years. I'm sure you won't need as much intervention but it's sometimes good to know there are lots of other things you can do should you need to , I was constantly worrying on clomid about what the next step would be.

sarah2211- Generally speaking, not all doctors will just give clomid unless you're not ovulating because it does affect cervical mucus negatively and can thin your lining due to its anti estrogen properties, so it's all about weighing up what's best for your circumstances.

12 months is the norm I'm afraid because that's considered a normal amount of time to ttc, however you should get help sooner if you can show you're not ovulating, are you in the UK? your gp surgery can do a day 21 test for you, you'll need to do it 2 times ideally (or at least my fertility clinic insisted on two cycles in a row of tests just in case the first was a fluke) and then your gp will be able to refer you.

Why aren't you sure of your oh's SA results?

I too have pcos, I went through 3 years of help at a fertility clinic so feel free to ask any questions.
