Starting Clomid

Thanks Vanilla,

I have read about some of the negative side effects of clomid. But it seems like it's still given to women who are ovulating but have unexplained infertility. Not in the UK, I'm in New Zealand. We are seeing a fertility specialist currently. We went through the public system so I wasn't expecting to be seen until the 12 month mark but we got in early. My DH had done his SA a month before our appointment. But when we got to the appointment the doctor couldn't find his or my results. I've had a CD21 test before twice actually. But the specialist asked me to do it CD30 this cycle (today) because I have longer cycles.

We suspect there might be multiple issues going on but won't know until we have more testing.

Hopefully it'll be something straightforward to resolve, that's really annoying that they've potentially lost your results though. It's good they're doing day 30 tests as well, for ladies with pcos/long or irregular cycles it's best to do it then, I was doing them at 21 and day 29 if I remember right. Are you able to call up in the meantime to get your results? here they make you wait months between appointments.

If the blood test results and SA don't show an obvious problem they will probably do an internal scan to get a better look at your ovaries if they haven't already.

I'm hoping so too. After our appointment I rung the lab and within a few minutes they found the results and had faxed them to the specialist. If we were seeing the specialist privately then we could ring and get the results. But because we're just seeing him through the public system they don't take the time to let you know those things in between your appointment. Possibly I could go to my GP and he might be able to find out, but what would be the point? We can't do anything until our next appointment anyway.

I think it's just an abdominal ultrasound at this stage. I've had them before, I actually had one a few days before our appointment because I had an early loss the previous cycle. They've never showen anything abnormal so I'm not expecting them to.

Thanks! I'm hopeful for the 100mg! Hoes things with you?

Sarahxxx

Thanks! I'm just concentrating on Clomid just now, I really haven't thought about what would happen if it simply doesn't work. I think I'll leave that until I need to think about it, I'm such a worrier as it is!

I saw your thread and wanted to come on and wish you luck :dust: hopefully clomid at the next dose will be all you need but if not there is still plenty more than can be done. Clomid on the highest dose and tamoxifen didn't work for me but I had ovarian drilling and 5 months plus 2 cycles of clomid later I got my bfp after 4 years. I'm sure you won't need as much intervention but it's sometimes good to know there are lots of other things you can do should you need to , I was constantly worrying on clomid about what the next step would be.

sarah2211- Generally speaking, not all doctors will just give clomid unless you're not ovulating because it does affect cervical mucus negatively and can thin your lining due to its anti estrogen properties, so it's all about weighing up what's best for your circumstances.

12 months is the norm I'm afraid because that's considered a normal amount of time to ttc, however you should get help sooner if you can show you're not ovulating, are you in the UK? your gp surgery can do a day 21 test for you, you'll need to do it 2 times ideally (or at least my fertility clinic insisted on two cycles in a row of tests just in case the first was a fluke) and then your gp will be able to refer you.

Why aren't you sure of your oh's SA results?

I too have pcos, I went through 3 years of help at a fertility clinic so feel free to ask any questions.
