Still not really believing?

Hi ladies,

I got my BFP just over a week ago after 2 months of TTC. I went to my GP today (in UK) and was expecting to have to take a pregnancy test there, and maybe have a blood test. But I just got weighed, measured, BP taken and heart checked with stethoscope. I have also been referred to antenatal unit at local hospital.

I was told that the midwife from the maternity unit would get in touch with me 10-14 weeks for my first scan, but I thought I would also see the midwife at 8-10 weeks to take medical history, urine sample etc? Is it quite normal to have nothing until your first scan?

I am also still in a state of disbelief because we are basing this on 2 pregnancy tests I did on 1 day. 1 with FMU and 1 later that evening. Both came up 3+ on CB digi. I am about 6 weeks pregnant, due Nov 17th.

I feel really blessed to have gotten pregnant so quickly, but also can't help but feel a little guilty. My sister had difficulty TTC no.1 and took her just over 2 yrs (it only took a couple of months for no.2, which is on its way in September!), so we thought we might have similar problems.

I am also not having major symptoms: I'm quite tired by the end of the day, still got very sore and heavy BBs, and heavy nausea first thing and then light nausea when I am hungry.... I am doing the typical 'I'm not having any "proper" MS yet, so am I really pregnant??' thing.

Sorry to waffle, but does any of this make sense?

Thanks for reading.

Seems strange your doctor didn't do a test, my doctor does a test, then gives colic acid tablets to take, last time I saw the midwife at 8 weeks, but I'm waiting for the midwife to ring with an appointment, but the midwife did the weight check and then took all the details first, but maybe your doctor has done this in your case instead of the midwife? Not quite sure really

Hmmm, i went to my doctor and he gave me folic acid and refered me to a midwife at 10 weeks, then she took blood and urine sample and booked in my 12 weeks scan and said i could have a 14 week one too if i wished, i think anywhere between 10-12 week should be okay for the midwife too see you.

sometimes it's hard because our Drs all have different approch...But your digit are enough to confirm your pregnancy and you will see a nurse soon. Ask her all the question you have in your mind.

Congrats!

xoxo~

Hi, with my first I didn't see anyone at the hospital until the 12 week scan but doc did confirm pregnancy with test. With this pregnancy my GP didn't do a test but referred me to the midwife. I have seen her once and she has booked my 12 week scan. But you don't really see anyone before 12 weeks until the first scan to check on baby and plan your due date. The midwife will then take your bloods. Don't worry! And congrats x x

Hey - am in a very similar situation - was trying properly for around two months then got BFP around 4/5 weeks in. I am around about the same EDD as you I think. Went to the doctor, who asked a few questions, and I had an implantation bleed at the beginning of Mar, so she referred me for an early scan and told me not to ring the midwife until I'd had the scan (to make sure everything was there etc). All she told me was to take folic acid and don't do any heavy lifting. Had the scan today and everything was good so rang to book an appointment with the Midwife and was told she doesn't do appointments until 10 weeks. So that is booked in for end of April. Because I had the early scan my 12 week scan is booked in for 10th May, but if I hadn't had that I would just have been waiting until 10 weeks. I didn't really have any symptons - had some headaches very early on, and very bunged up and sniffly, then got sore boobs around the 6 weeks mark. We didn't believe it either - until the early scan. Think that is just how they do it in the UK! If you've got positive on Clear blue Digi, they don't test again.

Hope this wasn't too much waffle and helps in some way.

OK, that sounds great. I think if I have not heard from someone from the maternity unit by 8-9 weeks I will just ring the antenatal clinic directly and ask about the booking appt (their brochure says, 'want to find out what happens next? Ring us on xxxxx')

Now to relax and be positive: surely the best thing I can do for Willabe (willabe a boy or willabe a girl? geddit?)

Thank you ladies xxx

Glad that your early scan was ok!!! I only got referred today so I think I will give it a few days before ringing and seeing if I can just make an appointment with the midwife. I may use the excuse that we are in the middle of moving house (which we are) and wanted to check my referral had come through.....

With all 3 of my pregnancies when I went at around 5wks to tell doc I was pregnant, he said congrats and that was it!!

I have never had a pregnancy test taken.

I have been passed onto the midwife and received a letter in post about first meeting with them and thats appts from 8wks+.At those appts I have had bp, urine sample etc then and all the chat about being pregnant etc.

My last pregnancy I didnt believe I was pregnant til my 1st scan at 13wks as I had no symptoms at all
It does sound like it differs depending where you are:flower:
