still shaking omg!

Wow that is a BIG quake! I remember doing the earthquake drills in school when I lived in BC... fun stuff! Then I moved to Southern Ontario and had to practice tornado drills and then I moved where I am now and we had to practice lock down drills

I've always wanted to be in just a little earthquake to experience it but I keep missing them! In BC there was a 6.something and we were right on the epicenter... but I slept through it :( and then about a month ago there was just a little 5.1 earthquake and I missed it cause I was driving in my not so smoothe riding car and didn't notice it  couldn't figure out for the life of me why everyone was running into the streets... (they don't actually know what to do in the event of an earthquake here and EVERYONE thought that running outside and standing beside the buildings with wall to wall windows was the safest option... :dohh:)

And just a few weeks before that my mom was making fun of me cause I was teaching my 5 year old daughter what to do in the event of an earthquake.... cause apparently we don't get earthquakes here!

yeah i cant ring her or message her back it sucks... and now im worrying about bubs i kept going to the toliet wish i has a test i could take

If you're not bleeding and cramping, you are probably fine.

i want to sleep but everytime i go to sleep we get another one and i freak out.

thanks lisa i dont have either of that so thats good, not feeling very pregnant today but i think it is because i did not do a test for the first time and i have had my minds on other things, well i hope so anyway, 4 more sleeps until the doctors yay :)

Just saw some of the damage on the news here.... they were talking about how lucky everyone was that nobody was really out on the streets when it struck... makes me laugh that your OH ran outside... well its only funny because he's ok... doorways and under tables, lol...

Maybe set up a sleepingbag arrangement under the dining room table for tonight so you can sleep easier? :)

Glad to hear you are ok, the news doesn't seem to be saying much about anywhere apart from ChCh and Kiaipoi and we were wondering about areas closer to the epicentre. We are north of ChCh near Rangiora and got very rudely awakened at 4:35 this morning with the bed shaking quite violently, but nothing compared to you guys I imagine. My daughter and baby boy slept through it, but my 2yr old was up. We've been very lucky here keeping power, phone etc and no damage we can see.

Yeah, we're aware of earthquakes here, but really only get a big one every decade or so... and even then, that doesn't mean its near where you live. We did the sleep under the table thing when I was 8yrs old in the '89 quake... we even put pencils on the edge of the table so we'd see them fall and know it was a real earthquake and we didn't have to jump at every perceived shake.

Where I am right now we actually have more trouble with wildfires.. 3 in the past 2 years... over 150 homes lost in 2 of them including my FIL's  Very scary and I'm terrified of fire (house burned down when I was 3 - I wasnt home but I've had nightmares about my house burning all my life it seems and seriously freak out/cry whenever there is a fire here thats burning houses).

Wow! I'm terrified of fires too..... Had a traumatic fire experience when I was 9.... My mom was already in the hospital for placenta previa (she in total spent 10 weeks in the hospital because she kept hemorrhaging... so it wasn't a very good time in our lives to begin with) then my step father caught our kitchen on fire while cooking one evening which resulted in him getting several 2nd and 3rd degree burns and he ended up in the hospital as well. I had to stay with neighbours who I didn't know very well (we were new to the area and didn't have family nearby). The fire was contained to only the kitchen.... but it was a stressful none the less.. After that I became super terrified of fires and that fear intensifed dramatically about 7 years ago when two children I used to babysit for were killed in a house fire.... Fire = Bad

Wow, that sounds scarier than what I experienced. I have no conscious memories of it, but our house was destroyed, some of our belongings were saved though. It was an electrical fire from bad wiring... my mom was the only one home and was in the shower (we think the garage door closing when my dad left with us is what started it with the bad wiring - which was a design flaw in the house from when it was built). My mom crawled out in her bathrobe but nobody was hurt.

Comic relief: My dog is freaking out and barking at a parking cone across the street :dohh:

Hi libbymarks and others in Chch, I'm from Auckland (living in Tokyo) so saw the news on the Herald online this morning- hoping you and everyone in the area are ok and that the aftershocks don't continue too long!

Here in Tokyo we are often shaken by small earthquakes and everyone is aware that a big one could hit any time- scary huh.

Take care :flower:
