I had my first c-section with staples and wondered what was everyone's experience with them and stitches. I healed beautifully with staples and don't know if I will this time.:haha: there's some excess skin from my first. Should I go with stitches and glue or the staples again?:flower:
Thanks ladies. :)

With my son I had internal dissolvable sutures and then glue. My incision healed wonderfully and I didn't have to have anything removed. I've never had staples before, but I would imagine that they can pull and get stuck on clothing.

It will depend on your surgeons and his personal preference (and assessment of the area in question)

Staples shouldnt be able to get stuck on clothing as they are flush with your skin.

I had dissoluble stitches with my first section (the wound opened up but cant say if that was due to the type of stitches/thread or just bad luck)

I hate the look of stables, more scarring left over than a stitch and to me I just think its pure laziness on the surgeons part to use stables instead of taking the time to bring every layer neatly together.

I had staples less than 4 weeks ago and honestly my incision looks like a paper cut now!
Oh and they never got stuck on anything

You don't generally get a choice though. Depends whise doing the surgery they all have their preference

I was asked when I received my date and couldn't answer. I have until Monday to decide. I didn't have any problems with my staples but the ends of the incision were like criss-crossed? It was odd.

I had staples for mine and loved them lol incision closed up beautifully. I would choose them again if I get a choice next time.

After 4 shoulder surgeries and dealing with suture rejection, reopening wounds.. one surgeon didnt cut out the knot and just yanked it through etc... Im for staples all the way lol

I had dissolvable stitches first two times. Tis time the surgeon and to use staples as the skin was tough and fibrous and the stitches wouldn't hold. I found the staples gave me slightly more pain, especially when I tried to wear a support belt on my incision afterwards (I bought an abdomend one but couldn't really wear it until the staples were taken out as they hurt a bit when pressed). I didn't get to choose though, I think it's the surgeons choice on the day.

If I got to choose and both were viable options I guess I would go for dissolvable stitches.

heres my scar at 3 weeks 5 days post emcs with staples

ps. excuse the hairiness im still afraid to shave!

That's what mine looks like now! I mean mine is a little more red as I'm a pale ghost and I can't see any holes from the staples but that's been 3 years ago! ><
I'd say you're healing quite nicely.

I had staples 22 to be exact :haha: mine healed lovely with no problems afterwards

But it depends on your surgeon's preference on the day

I had staples and my scar is barely visible! they hurt being taken out but they did keep things pretty firmly in place so i think theyre worth it

Thank you ladies. My doctor put internal dissolve able ones and just steri strips outside. She also cleaned up the area a bit because of excess skin/really bad stretch marks from my first and made the area a lot neater. It actually looks incredibly neat. Confuses me that I don't have to pull up a lot of skin to see my incision and actually my "pouch" is hardly there. She does staples but preferred the stitching as she could clean up the area and make it look nicer. :) healing is great too. Two steri strips have already fallen off.:happydance:

I had dissolvable stitches. My OB is the only doctor in my city who routinely uses stitches over staples. It healed beautifully and the scar is barely visible 9 months later...he is an artist! lol

My "flap" wasn't noticeable for a few weeks, your uterus is still shrinking and a lot if the swelling will go down

I had dissolving stitches and I head beautifully with hardly any evidence of being cut.
