They are really painful, to the point where I can hardly bare to sit down. They are worse now than the first couple of days. The midwife says that's because they are healing and offered to take out the first stitch, which I stupidly refused and am now regretting. Any tips on how to ease the pain?

Are these ceaserean stitches or "down below" stitches? If they are the latter, which they probs are if you cant sit down, have you tried tea tree oil in your bath? It won ease the pain but it heals the cut faster. I felt abit like this after mine! When did you have your baby?

Just seen your last thread! :dohh:

I felt fine for the first couple of days after mine, thought great wot does everyone complain about. Then it started to hurt, like a horse had kicked me between the legs!

It wont last too much longer. :hugs:

Frozen fingercots wrapped in guaze that has been soaked in witch hazel.

Fingercots are just fingers cut out of latex gloves rolled up (they look like mini condoms) Just fill with water, tie with rubber band and freeze these. You can get fingercots in any pharmacy.

While you're at the pharmacy getting fingercots get witch hazel and guaze.

When your fingercots are frozen, wrap these in the guaze soaked in the witch hazel, lay in your pad so they lay against your stitches.

Part of the pain is some of the swelling you have, and the cool will help with that, plus the cool will help numb the area and soothe it.

You can reuse the fingercots, just throw dirty guaze away and rinse the little fingercot balloon. Then refreeze.

These were my salvation for baby 1. :headspin:

Thanks for the advice, I'll see if I can give some of those things a try.

What I found helped....everytime I went to the loo I took a jug of luke warm water with salt in it & I poured it over myself from front to back in between my legs (TMI Sorry)...I also had lots of baths with salt in them....hope they get a bit easier soon x

i just had lots lukewarm baths and wore BIG cotton knickers like french pants, i was advised not put anthing down there due to risk of infection, including salt. Would have thought the frozen things be fine but i would do it over the top of knickers or some kind protection!!! it will get better soon hunni, if the pain gets really bad then consult ur midwife jus in case of infection etc.. relax and put ur feet up!!! good luck x

Its possible the stitches might need to come out?
Ive not had stitches down there but i had some at my bellybutton recently. They got really painful overnight and it turned out they just needed to come out.

HI!

The nurse who came to visit after we got home mentionned and ointement that could be applied locally to stitches. It's called EMLA. Here in Canada, you must ask the pharmacist but it does not require a prescription. I bought it but didn't need it. The nurse told me it helps lots when you begin to heal and the stitches kind of itch and poke. Hope it helps! ;)
