when do babies poos start to firm up? we have been weaning H since 19 weeks (doctors advice) he is having 3 meals a day all of which are fruit or veg and 5 7oz bottles. is it when they get meat etc and cut down on the milk?

He is going more but I guess thats expected as he has more going into him...

Sorry  He was poorly at 2 months and I worry about poos too much...

I'm also a poop watcher! LO has a mild intolerance to something in the milk (not severe enough for the docs to do anything about!) so we get runny bums.

When we started weaning I noticed a difference in a few days. We were feeding parsnip, banana, pear, carrot and broccoli (with a bit of baby rice now and again but she hates the stuff).

On days when she has banana I notice a difference the next day. I had given baby cereal and noticed a difference but then found out I shouldn't before 6 months so I've stopped giving that!

I've noticed some foods have more of an effect than others. If LO is having a loose day, give him some banana and it should firm things up soon enough.

Having said that, we're on 4 7oz bottles and 2 very small meals so it could all change!

Only once they're a toddler with my two, even then you probably won't see a 'formed' poo in a nappy because when they sit/lie on it, they squash it! If you're getting properly formed poos that aren't soft enough to get at least a bit squashed in a nappy when sitting down, I'd look at increasing fluid intake and the foods you're giving as you don't want LO becoming constipated.

You do usually notice a slight difference early on e.g. bits of vegetables, but the real changes happened after a year old with my kids and they were still 'wet' dirty nappies for quite some time after that... maybe 18 months+ for 'adult' poos.
