I was diagnosed with this yesterday at my ultrasound scan, but was given absolutely no information about it. I was told it was quite large, but no size was noted in my notes. I've read loads of conflicting things online about whether you should rest or not, and whether the prognosis is good or not. I am having episodes of brown blood, but have been told that as it is old blood this is a good sign, although the cramping is not good. Has anyone had this that can shed some light?

Hi,

I did have one picked up on a very early ultrasound at about 7 weeks due to bright red bleeding. Mine was quite small and resulted in a bit of brown bleeding (told to expect that as it's the blood leaving).

But it was very early on and I didn'[t have any cramping. So I don't know I'm afraid. I'm at 26 weeks now and everything is still ok.

Can you not ring them and ask them what you should do about it? Rest/normal activity etc? They really should have given you an idea about what to do. If you have notes, I am guessing that you already have contact with a midwife team - perhaps they are the best people to contact, rather than the ultrasonographer?

I havnt had that but i did have an area of bleed below the sac. I bled bright red and was worried sick. But its all ok. I have seen a lot of cases of this as i work in a scan department and more often than not it turns out fone. You do need to have some advise. Call your midwife x

Hi there

I had some brown bleeding and after two scans they found a dark spot which the sonographer diagnosed as a subchorionic hematoma. I was told that there was nothing that they could pinpoint exactly as to why I had it, and to just avoid lifting heavy things. I was also told that in most instances, the bruising would either be reabsorbed by the body or it could be what was accountable for the brown blood, however some times it may be a sign of something else wrong.

When I then went in for my 12 week NT scan, the bruising had gone, and there was no trace of it anymore, and the baby was very active.

Hope this helps - I know it's hard not to worry, all I can tell you is try :hugs:

Hun, I've heard that a lot of the time this can resolve itself. I read up on this a while ago and the general consensus was to rest as much as possible and drink lots of water. 80% of the stories I read had successful births.
I think it also depends on where it is as to the level of concern they have about it, they will probably keep a close eye on you throughout / until resolved.
Brown blood is old blood and this caused by the Haematoma. If you cramp get seen straight away.
Try not to worry hun, like I said I've heard of may succesful pregnancies with this condition, do speak more to your midwife though, ask all the questions you need to so you fully understand what it is, don't google!

I have this as well and spotted from 6wks to about 14wks. I have had about two weeks without anything and am praying that my next ultrasound confirms that it has finally gone away!!! Good luck to you!! There is a whole group in the BNB Groups called SCH group. You should check it out...tons of great info in there!!

I had one of these from 5 weeks - large and caused me to bleed heavily on 4 occasions. It had fully resolved by my 20 week scan and i now only have 6 weeks to go. Most turn out fine, no evidence for bed rest, just be sensible and no heavy lifting.

I have this and mine is about 6 cms and continuing to grow, i had one episode of really heavy red bleeding but no cramps and i have brown blood every day.......i also am not too sure as they dont give you too much information, i have not been resting, they have re-scanned me more though and now im not sure what to expect, it doesnt look set to reabsorb before my 20 week scan! try not to worry, but also dont over exert yourself. xx

1babygirl, when were u diagnosed with this, how many weeks?? i was diagnosed with this yesterday and im 6wks 3 days, mine is 3 cm long and not as wide, and its very close to the baby putting pressure on the sac already making it a slightly abnormal shape. i really hope this is gonna be ok, i went through this with my last daughter and she turned out fine so im hoping for a good outcome. x
