Hello!
I usually don't post on success stories, because I feel that it should be left for women who want to share their stories, but I am kind of at a loss. I just had an HSG and found that my left tube is completely blocked and my right one is barely open. My doc is sending me to a fertility specialist, but said that I will probably have to do IVF to get a baby. I am so scared, upset, you name it, I'm feeling it. I have also read that they remove the blocked tube? I don't know how I feel about this. I know it doesn't work and isn't doing me any good, but I already have an empty feeling with it not working, it will be worse if it is removed.

Does anyone have any experience with this? How were you successful with blocked or partially blocked tubes? Is IVF as scary as it seems?

Thanks in advance.

Hi Navymom! I 2 earlier this year discovered both my tubes were blocked w/ a HSG. I underwent surgery in attempt to open them and was sucessful in opening my left one. He said it would remain open for 4-6 months (this month is the 6th) and in the first 3 months after surgery we tried w/ fertility meds and lots of dr appointments with no success. So because it was costing us around $900 a month for meds and dr's visits we decided to try on own and start saving for ivf. Still no bfp so we are hoping to have the $10,000 by next spring and I'm very hopeful that it will work. My husbands sister concieved 2 beautiful girls this way and have seen many positive stories on here. So of course its a personel decision to make but I've heard many people who were successful spend alot of time money and effort on other things and wished they had went to ivf to start with. Me being one of them now. The fertility drugs are tough but well worth it in the end. I'm sure nothing you couldn't handle. I tell myself to keep the eye on the prize. lol So the best of luck to you!!!!

Thanks for your response/story, Sunny. We are just waiting for insurance (military insurance doesn't cover IVF) from my job and then we are going to go to the fs that my obgyn referred me to. I am just going to wait it out and see what the fs has to say about what would be my best option. The fs that I have been referred to is highly reccommended where I live and I know a few women who have gone to him. So, hopefully we will get the ball rolling soon!

Good luck to you as well!

I also had a blocked tube (my left) the fs I went to said take it out...so that's what we did. He also said that my right tube was not in the best shape and he almost took that one as well. I have not gotten my bfp yet but hoping it will happen soon! Doc said that ivf is the best way for us to go also, but we don't have the 1500 to pay after our ins pays out for the most part. I hope you get a bfp soon hun!! Just keep your head up!! :)

Hi

I have a blocked tube and conceived naturally 2010!

One of my tubes blocked up somewhere between 2006 & 2009, I only know that because I had HSG's in both of those years. I've also gone through 3 x ivf's in 2009 which were all unsuccessful.

I'm not going to lie to you, ivf is a very emotional experience and a roller coaster you cant get off unless your successful. It's mind over matter injecting yourself but I coped, as you do, when you would do anything to get pregnant.

I tried for 9 years before i successfully fell pregnant naturally. The only thing I did different after all that was I took low dose aspirin and sasmar lube and low and behold 2 months later I got pregnant! My little boy is now 7 months old and worth all the pain and torture I went through, not to mention £10.000 on ivf.

I wish you well and if there is anything you would like to ask feel free but you may have to private message me:thumbup:

hallo good to know im not alone.both of my tubes are blocked.i saw a doc who suggested hydrotubation and i had it done on dec 9.the doc said it was successftul.after 2wks i got my periods and now im at 2wks wait.i hope it works i have been ttc for 4 yrs.maybe you can ask ua doc about it

:hi: hun
I do not have a success story but i just wanted you to know that i have experience of the hsg and one of my tubes were either spasming or blocked.
Anyhow last tuesday i had a laparoscopy, hysteroscopy and ovarian drilling an during the op the said i had a small blockage which has been removed. If i didnt have the op i would be ttc with one tube whereas now i have two.

I just wanted you to know that there are other options that you could look in to and ask about.
Please keep us updated on what happens next
X

Thanks everyone. We go to a new doc/fs on Friday. I'll let you know what they say.

Hope the new doc works out better NavyWife! Hmm...I wonder if my now open tube is only good for 4-6 months. I wasn't told about that.

i just posted a question about this. i hadn't heard about the 4-6 months thing either! why wouldn't my doctor tell me? i had my surgery on nov. 15th. that means i am in month two. i am beginning to worry...
is it true?

So I asked the nurse at my gynecologist's office. She said it depended on the type of blockage and how far down the tube. Mine was right next to the uterus and was a mucus plug. Apparently that's unlikely to close. If it was scar tissue, then there's a higher chance.

I've still asked for a referral to a fertility specialist so I can catch this in time and hopefully my gynecologist starts me on clomid during the wait. I ovulate but perhaps not strong enough.

:hi: Hun

Just wanted to pop in and give you a bit of hope, I've got two blocked tubes (found out via HSG)
They never took mine out or mentioned unblocking them and referred me straight to ivf

We had out first round of ivf in January and we got our very first bfp :happydance:

Hoping everything works out for you all :hugs:

Congrats on the BFP! My DH and I have been trying for 3 yrs and just found during a laparoscopy that both tubes are blocked and he could not unblock them via laparoscopy. I would have to have surgery to "filet" them open through my abdomen. He also suggested IVF as I am 34 yrs old.
I've heard good and bad things about IVF and its so expensive (my insurance does not cover infertility at all). We have a 50% chance at an ectopic pregnancy if we try to conceive after my lap last week. I wont ovulate again for about 22 days so we're freaking out! We could miss our window. My OBGYN did say they will close back up and I will have to go for another HSG (which is awful) to see if they are already closed back up. I feel like we're running out of time and Im looking for others in my situation that successfully conceived with both tubes blocked either naturally, IVF or surgery to open tubes.

A positive story for you....

After falling pregnant first cycle off Cerazette in September 2009, we found out it was an ectopic in my right tube. It was removed surgically but the tube was left damaged. 6 months later I fell pregnant again and it was an ectopic on the other side.

That's not the positive bit!

They said our only option was IVF and I was put on the waiting list and told to call soon as my period arrived to have the first bloods done. That period never arrived and here I am with an amazing miracle 15 month old boy. :cloud9:

^^
That was the positive bit.

Unfortunately TTC #2 is taking some time again and it's been over a year now. Am going to have a HyCoSy (tube dye test done without aneasthetic and with ultrasound) to see if they can shift any of the blockage and give me more of a chance. If not, I will once again be looking at IVF though this time the NHS won't pay for it as I already have a child. I guess that's fair enough, so what we will have to do is "egg sharing" which will mean the clinic gives me a free cycle of IVF.
Just hoping I have a narrow escape from IVF again like last time.

Best of luck to you all who are still waiting. :flower:

:spermy::spermy:
That's an amazing story! Congrats to you. I'm hopeful that we have a miracle as well with blocked tubes. Doctors are not always 100% accurate with diagnosis. I wish you all the best in your TTC journey!

Had the HyCoSy done yesterday and they found one of the tubes blocked and the other one amazingly open. They couldn't believe it and neither could I! With all the dye being squirted in over and over, my right tube unblocked itself as well. Really hope this gives me more of a chance this month.

wow, thats an inspiring story u got there 2016.. i hope that could happen with me also, but my right tube wsa surgically removed due to tubal ectopic pregnancy, and my remaining left tube is found out ot be blocked.. i just hope and pray it will unblock itself miraculously.. im that dreamy.. T_T

well, im inspired with ur success story,.. :) hope to have a baby of our own soon..

success story!

brief history:
1. married almost 4 years and begun trying immediately. HSG shows one blocked tube. (july 2010)
2. laparoscopic surgery to unblock one tube- hydrosalpinx which means it was full of toxic fluid that does not allow conception to take place. (november 2011)
3. no success after 6 months or more IVF # 1 :bfn: (may 2012)
4. hysteroscopy to remove polyp (july 2012)
5. IVF #2 :bfn: (august 2012)
6. sulking.
7. 3rd HSG that shows "unblocked" tube blocked again.
8. getting ready for 3rd IVF, we buy meds, are told we have slim chances of concieving on our own.
9. IVF cancelled, doctor away on conferences and whatnot.
10. new doctor, schedule removal of tube before IVF at end of august.

11. :bfp: out of nowhere!!!

once we relaxed and stopped thinking about ttc we got pregnant on our own! it's a miracle babY!!!! ( i used to hate when people would tell me to relax and stop thinking about it. like that was possible!)

you truly never know. God works in mysterious ways...

also, i drank a little beer, a little wine, lifted and pushed heavy things, did all the heavy work around the house due to DH's heart problems, swam everyday, rode a motorcycle around the island, my bike, i didn't think it was possible we would ever get pregnant on our own. i had no idea...
