Is there a reason they want you to have your baby as early as 36 weeks? Is there some complication they're concerned about? In theory, if a sweep works, it should bring labour on within about 24-48 hours, meaning you'd then have a premature baby. That doesn't sound safe to me, particularly if there are medical complications already. I would talk with them about their concerns and the risks of going later compared with the risks of an early baby. I had my daughter at 37 weeks (naturally and spontaneously) and honestly earlier babies do tend to struggle a bit more with feeding and weight gain often because they're still so sleepy and it was really hard and stressful in the first few weeks because she just wouldn't gain weight. I wouldn't opt for that again unless there was a genuine medical need to, personally. Like others have said though, sweeps tend not to be very effective unless you're ready to go into labour anyway. They can also introduce infection and risk breaking your waters. I know someone who had a sweep and the midwife accidentally broke her waters, baby wasn't engaged (they aren't supposed to break your waters unless baby is engaged) and she had to be rushed for a c-section for cord prolapse. In most cases, they just don't do much, but sometimes in rare cases they do carry extra risks, which is just something to know so you can weigh up the risks of the sweep compared to the risks of whatever complications you're already experiencing and how urgent it is to encourage labour.
