This has only started about a month ago, she has become so obsessed with the tags / labels on her clothes. She just likes to hold it, she is now waking up in the night crying her eyes out if she can't find it. She's just turned 3, this is not something she's done before I don't quite know how to handle it.

I mean it's not hurting but waking us all up in the night as she can't find one on her clothes is annoying :( she's only just started sleeping through the night, now this!

Also she keeps lifting up her dresses or tops to get one. In public or at schools this is not something I want her doing :(

Anyone else have a lo who did this? Did they just grow out of it? Should I cut them all of her clothes? Or buy her a taggie blankets to see if she prefers that to lifting her clothes up

You won't like my answer but I'll share it with you anyway...

My little sister used to be like this, it started when she was about 4/5 and had some time off school as she was ill. she started fiddling with the label on her teddy as a self soothing thing. When she had to go back to school my mum sewed a 'fake label' on to a handkerchief so she comfort herself at school. Her teddy stayed with her all the time and even had to be dressed in baby clothes when the patch around the label got so worn it started to rip. by the time my sister started uni he needed a new outfit but she still fiddled with his label. She still has her teddy safely on her bed but now fiddles with the next best thing - her handbag straps (in fact i just brought her a bag for her birthday simply because it has a tassle on it) her plaited hair etc. At nearly 28 years old I can't see her ever stopping

my son has a taggy blanket which he's obsessed with, he doesn't seem as bothered with the tags on his clothes anymore so maybe its worth a try xx

Sebastian loves the label on his muslin, holding it and playing with it soothes him. He has been doing this since we was tiny. I make sure I always have two muslins in his cot for nap and sleeping time. I tried taggies (small squares with labels all around) but that didn't work for him as for him it has to be the labels of a specific brand of muslin I guess. But if any kind of label will do for your LO then it would be worth a try. They sell lots of different ones on Amazon.uk. Good luck :)

You also may not like my answer either but....
My OH is 31 and still plays with labels!!!:haha:

He crosses his arms in a certain way so he can fiddle with the label on the inside seam of his tops. He will also play with labels on mine or girls clothes if we sit closely.

It doesnt affect his life at all and he by no means freaks out, etc if he cant play with his tag. More of an annoying (to me and his mother!) habit that he has.
