Hiya I've just been reading that the hospital I will give birth in (uk) requires you take in baby milk and bottles. Ok I can understand the milk but how do the bottles you take in get sterilised??? Last time I bottlefed was over 16 years ago and the hospital provided the milk readymade in bottles!!

When I went into hospital I didn't know whether they provided formula or not, so I took in a carton of ready made milk, and I bought the steribottles from toysrus https://www.steribottle.com/index.html

You can also buy the little glass bottles of SMA or Cow and Gate.
I've seen them in Asda and Boots.

Thanks ladies-i was totally perplexed lol I will look out for those items.

At my hospital they had ready-to-serve formula and sterile, individually packed one-time use nipples, maybe keep an eye out for that? I've never seen them in stores though!! :(

my hospital provided sterilisers!! worth asking

They will have a steriliser surely. The birth centre I used had a steriliser but no bottles or formula.

You can by the ready made bottles in sma and cow and gate, or you can buy cartons and sterile bottles that are ready to just add the milk. But would think the hospital would atleast supply something for you to sterelise them in if you have to take your own, which is rather shocking in my opinion.

Hospitals provide little bottles of ready made milk hun so don't get to worried over this, I won't be taking formula milk in & bottles put it that way!
I do intend to breastfeed BUT with my son i was to poorly so his 1st feed had to be one of the ready made milk bottles the hospital have.

Thanks everyone. I read it on the hospital website? I'll have to ask my midwife next time I see her. I could understand more if they did provide those little bottles and just charged for them  With the amount I seem to expected to take into hospital with me I'm thinking a home birth might have been easier lol

I'm still shocked that some hospitals are doing this....i know breast is best etc but they always used to provide bottles and milk before. I'd ring up the maternity suite and ask them if they do have any sterilisers or bottles etc.

keely.

Thanks I'll definitely ask my midwife about this. But if they don't provide the milk in bottles I'm gonna get a Cow and Gate starter pack I think-hell I'm gonna be weighted down!!

Hey...I had this problem but i found out through a friend otherwise i wouldnt of known any different. i got a starter kit to take in with me, just as well i did because i wasnt asked if i had any bottles on me when i was on the ward. its crazy if the hospitals are going to do it should be all or nothing not just a few. i still think its terrible as if you dont have enough to worry about. What if some people want to BF but cant, im sure they have milk for them. its all down to pressuring new mums.
