Hiya,

Hollie has TT bottles and her teats are Closer to Nature easi-vent Slow Flow Teats and have heard people saying you should swap over her teats to others, when do i do this and what one's? Thanks xxx

We changed Caitlyn once it seemed like she needed it...she started getting frustrated with the slow flow so we changed her to medium..on the box it says 3 months but she wasnt feeding properly so we changed her around 4 weeksish :)

Now she's on Variflow and they've worked wonders as she decideds how fast / slow to take it...and her milk no longer blocks up the teat  [She is on easy digest though which is thicker]

Ok thanks, hollie is drinking C&G hungier babies, would this make a difference to the teats? I think shes happy with her teats at the mo, but just wanted to know if you had to change them or not, i did buy some of the variflow but didnt know if i should try these with her yet or if she was too young even though is does say from birth xxx

Yeah hungrier baby milk is also thicker if I remember reading correctly on the labels so the teat would get blocked up. In my experience with TT CTN teats I found that they were fine for the first few feeds and it was after that that she seemed to be taking less / struggling to get it out and taking longer over her feeds. Me and my OH didn't realise for a while that the milk was the problem with the teats and assumed it was Caitlyn being difficult

In respect to the variflow I didn't use these with Caitlyn till she was 2 months old as I found that at the start they were too fast and the milk did leak out too fast. Till then I had her on size 2 and just made sure the teat and the valve bit weren't blocked :)

So basically so long as your LO is getting the milk and isnt frustrated then I'd keep her on the same teats :) long winded way to say it

Hungrier baby milk isn't thicker, 'comfort' or 'easy digest' milk can be though. I use C&G hungry baby and it's identical in thickness to the stage one milk.

Change teats when she starts falling asleep or getting frustrated / crying midway thru the bottle. Or if it seems like she's sucking very hard and not much is coming out, that was what Ruby has done in the past, and also she refuses to drink from a too slow teat.

Hollie hasnt got any of this, she fine with the teats we are using number 1, slow flow and she is happy so i'll just leave her until i notice these changes in her

Thanks for the advice ladies xxx

Mailies 6 months next week and we've never changed teats as she's never needed it.

must only b my baby whos been on size2 since leaving hospital at a wk old :? mw told us to cos for 3day he was only drinking 30mil , but hes been grt on these, if shes happy then no point x

Yeah i will do, but should i buy her brand new ones every few months or so? xxx

i dont know bout that uknow buying new uns, maybe get some every 4/5mth but then she prob will b on size2 by then x

Yeah just thinking cos of hygenhen reasons and they may wear down i dont know, get some more in a couple of months if shes still on number 1 xxx

Ahh Honey my MW said that in hospital the teats on their bottles are size 2 so the bubba gets used to that flow, mummy goes home and puts him on newborn as the hospital forget to mention this and this then equals an unhappy baby who cant get his full feed

I just moved to 6 months + ones today - size 3 after only being on size 2 for not very long - my advice is dont buy too many, cos I spent over £12 on teats for a few weeks.
Must admit I did think the size 1 vari flow were the best - the size 2 and 3 do have a habit of being sucked in.

I would ignore the age on the teats, and when you lo is taking an age to have a bottle then buy the next size up.

i changed summer to the vari flow teats around 6 weeks cos she was taking longer to drink milk on stage 1. she seemed much happier with these and less windy.

Yep I would say ignore the ages on the teats too.
And Tinkabells you're right - the teats do wear out - you should buy new teats every 6 weeks or so, they are not designed to last longer than that.

Oh brilliant, well i still got some new 1 teats with slow flow and the vari, so in a few weeksn i'll changer her to those, but will keep an eye on here if she needs different ones before then xxx
