I was just wondering if anyone has had the glucose test??? I'm nervous!! Of course we all want healthy babies... But my next appointment March 3rd.. I have to drink this orange drink they gave me an hour before I go and then they have to take blood to check if the baby has gestational diabetes... I'm scared! I want my little guy healthy!!!
*Has anyone had this before?? If so please tell me about it Thanks!*

ALSO... I've asked my gyno this and she told me her theory and I can't get intouch with my Pediatricians office right now... so I'm going to ask you guys...
They say too many immunization shots for the baby are led to autism. Now I'm not sure about this study but I was told only get the ONE SHOT at birth and then go by the schedule they have.. I guess one at 4 weeks... 3 months 6 months and so on...

Any advice on these would be great! thanks girls!

I have not personally read into the study on immunizations. And I am not sure if you are saying that sometimes they give a bunch at birth? And that can lead to autism? If so.. from what I can remember with both my boys.. neither of them got anything at the hospital. They just went at 4 weeks and so on for the immunizations. I immunize my kids but I have a friend that has not done any.. and she doesn't use medicine AT ALL. So.. there is always someone out there that will have reasons for what they do. I don't think anyone can tell you what to do with your body or your children.
As for the diabetes test.. it's nothin hun! Just drink the drink and get your blood taken. No biggie. I am sure that if you are feeling good, your little one is fine. NO worries!!! Good luck!

I have my glucose test about the same time as well. I am not really worried about it, I feel just fine, and if it turns out I do have gestational diabetes, then I will know and can change my diet to deal with it.

As for the other question, no idea either!

Hi there

I know lots of people worry about giving their babies immunisation. There's been lots of research in the past 10 years to see if there is any link between the two and round the world, virtually all researchers are in agreement that autism is not caused by vaccines. (I can say this coz I work in brain research in a Uni). The misunderstanding has come about because most kids in the UK are given the MMR vaccine (measles, mumps & rubella) at the age of 2, which also happens to be the age when autism becomes apparent. Kids develop autism whether or not they have been vacinated- its mostly down to genetics. I would be more worried about my baby cathing measles - which can lead to very nasty complications - even death and when my baby gets to that age I will definitely have it vaccinated.
Best of Luck with the diabetes test :crib:

are u sure its not to check if u have gestational diabeties?

and, people were lead to believe mmr could possibly cause autism, but this was published today :)

Hey Dee! I'm having my test the exact same day... ::BLECH::

They're also going to do the first internal check since my first appointment (checking cervical competency/preterm labor stuff). So that's going to be a LOVELY day.

I don't remember ever having this with DD1, but I guess if I did, it made a huge impact on me huh!?

Anyway, only 5-10% of pregnant women even have GD so I'm hoping we're both gonna breeze through this thing.

As far as the immunization thing goes, I had the undesirable pleasure to go to a childrens hospital where little kids were experiencing some of these childhood diseases because their parents wouldn't have them immunized. The pain and terror and crap these kids go through was enough to persuade me to immunize my children even though there are some risks. (I've not been convinced of the link between autism and immunizations but thats JMHO.)

Immunizing kids - just like everything else a parent needs to decide is the parents choice.

Yah it's if us pregnant mommies have gestational diabetes. The baby starts to produce a lot of hormones during weeks 25-30 that make it harder for mama's body to regulate blood sugar. So they "challenge" our system to handle the glucose and see if we pass.

Wow never knew that!.... interesting.. I HOPE WE PASS!!! GOOD LUCK!

i know, but dee said it was for her baby lol!

I had a glucose test (GTT) done last month. I wasn't allowed to eat or drink anything from 9pm the night before. I had to have a blood test taken when I got there and then had to drink a jug of Lucozade then went back 2 hours later for a second blood test. I got the results the following morning which were normal (no gestational diabeties). I also have to go back at the end of march for another GTT.

I have been put down to have one of these glucose tests when i am 26 weeks as diabetes runs in my family, my sister had diabetes whilst she was pregnant but has not got it now, her kids are fine.

GTT's are nothing to worry about! i had mine about a month ago because one of my urine samples had a bit of glucose in it so it was just to make sure this was a one off and not GD. Results came back as normal, however my sister-in-law does have GD and it does not seem to affect her much, seems to be kept under control by diet alone. Only considerable difference between myself and her is that she is not allowed to go overdue so no late baby for her!! The blood test is also a good excuse for them to take some extra blood and check your iron levels etc.

Am sure your test results will come back normal anyway

Thanks ladies!... We'll find out next month! March 3rd!... I'll keep you all posted!

I had my glucose test at 24 weeks.
I drank a fuzzy orange drink (think Cplus) that had 50 grams of sugar, waited an hour and gave 2 blood samples.
results came back normal at 5.6, and I was really scared they were gonna be abnormal.

I'm not sure about the immunizations, but I think I heard the same thing you did from one of my friends. The glucose test really isn't that bad. The drink is ultra-fizzy and VERY orange-y, but really, doesn't taste awful or syrupy. You've got 5 minutes to drink it which kinda sucks, but I just downed mine. The hour wait is the worst part cause it's SOOOO boring. Bring a friend. I went with one of my friends that had to have a 3-hour GT done so we wouldn't be bored. Good Luck! Oh yea...reminds me..I have to go back for another one in a month or so...

Aww don't worry. I had Gestational diabetes and I can assure you it's not the end of the world ;) Everything went really well and my daughters are very healthy.

Hey hun! Yeah the gestational diabetes test is for YOU, not baby. It can affect baby but I wouldn't worry about it. For the most part, you're more at risk if you are overwieght or have certain other factors (you can do a search online for the risk factors of GD). Anyway, don't worry like it was said above, very few women get this. And the test is easy enough (although mine with my daughter wasn't flavored, so it tasted like flat sprite and I thought I'd puke on the taste LOL)!

I'm having mine done Feb. 25. I'll let you know how it is!
