I just had a question for you ladies that have experience or knowledge about Gestational Diabetes.

I had my not so lovely test done and received my results. I was sent for the two hour OGTT with the 100mg of sugary drink.

My results:

My results are:
Fasting Glucose: 4.5 mmol/L
1 Hour: 9.9mmol/L
2 Hour: 5.1 mmol/L

From what I've read I look within the normal range and the only one that is close is the one hour. Which is 10.0 and lower and I'm at 9.9.

Is what the doctor is looking for is more that I came back down after 2 hours?? I know some places don't even test the one hour and the results are based on the fasting and the 2 hour.

I see my Dr in two weeks to go over results but I thought i'd just check with other mommies who know a bit about the results.

Thankyou:flower:

Hiya.
I just checked my notes and this is what mine said:

fasting : 4.9
60 min: 10.2
120 min: 7.0

It then says Abnormal GTT, 1 hour post glucose >9.9

So I guess if yours is right on 9.9 then they may consider you borderline?
I'm not an expert by any means, but there are loads of knowledgeable ladies on here that mya be able to help.

Thanks pickles...It's the one hour that has me puzzled. Because my fasting and my two hour is right on track. I'll have to ask doctor because I'm wondering if it's the fasting and the 2 hour that they go by?? I've been doing some reading and I'm trying to figure out if it's the peak and then the 2 hour number that they are looking at. I think with Gestational Diabetes the 2 hour would stay in the high range but if the insulin and such is doing it's job then there would be a peak after one hour and then come back down.

So confusing LOL In the meantime I'll pass on dessert haha

They go by both the 1hr and 2hr and I would say your are borderline, which isn't a problem if you are late in pregnancy. If you are earlier then this can get worse as the baby grows.

If you are late preg don't worry too much as with those levels you should get away with just self testing and minimizing sugar and carb intake.

I'm 26 weeks. So a little while to go. I've been pretty careful with the carbs and sugars just to make sure. It's weird too because it's just that one hour level. At two hours I went right down, so I guess we'll see! 100mg of glucose, how could it not LOL Yuck!!

I found this table on the leves which was helpful.

Gestational Diabetes Diagnostic: OGTT

Sample drawn after 100-gram glucose drink (glucose load).
Time of Sample Collection
Target LEVEL

Fasting* (prior to glucose load) 95 mg/dL (5.3 mmol/L)
1 hour after glucose load 180 mg/dL (10.0 mmol/L)
2 hours after glucose load 155 mg/dL (8.6 mmol/L)
3 hours after glucose load* 140 mg/dL (7.8 mmol/L

INDICATION: If two or more values meet or exceed the target level, gestational diabetes is diagnosed.
* A 75-gram glucose load may be used, although this method is not as well validated as the 100-gram OGTT; the 3-hour sample is not drawn if 75 grams is used.

Something about pregnancy hormones that makes me worry more LOL

Yeah, the further on you are the more horemones you produce that will inhibit your body producing the right level of insulin and therefore having high blood glucose levels. It is likely that you will be recommended to test thoroughly and frequently and stick below those levels.

I am in the same boat at just 18 weeks.

Just had my mat appointment and doctor said my levels were good and even though the one hour was at the higher end, I was still in the range. Wooohooo Also I did not have any sugar in my urine. yay!
