Tested reactive for RPR blood test???? UPDATED!!

I am trying not to freak out!! Has anyone else ever had a false positive? I have been with my husband for 10yrs & neither of us have ever cheated. My last blood test was in May 2003 & everything was fine. That would have been 8 months after my husband & I met so if I would have gotten anything from my previous partner it would have showed up then. So I am freaking out a bit even though I know for sure my husband never cheated.......I had trust issues in the beginning & for about 5yrs actually after we met. I put a thing on his computer that I could see every site he visited & every word he typed,lol, I know, horrible but I was treated badly before! Anyway he is not the least bit interested in other women & I know where he is every second of every day, not because I am obsessive anymore but we just let each other know where we are & stuff and he works & fishes with our 8yr old son, that's about it,lol. He wasn't the least bit worried either even though I was freaking out! They did another test but it takes an entire week to come back Oh and about 1 1/2yrs ago he had a huge amount of blood work done due to what they thought was food poisoning or some sort of bacterial infection.....ended up being severe anxiety after losing a boss suddenly to cancer then helping remove 3 badly burnt dead bodies from a small plane crash. But all his test results were fine. I am so sorry for going on & on but I just don't know what to think! Surely I couldn't have had syphilis for 10yrs without knowing it! Ugh! This will be the longest week of my life

Just to let you know that if you google syphilis it states that it can lay dormant for decades, so worth reading up on it. Hope this helps a bit.

But it says it shows up within 3 weeks of being exposed to it even if the symptoms remain dormant. I was tested 8 months after being with anyone except my husband.

For anyone who doesn't know it's a test that when "reactive" means you could have syphilis. Apparently there are a lot of false positives & the reasons for the false positives can be issues with your joints, being pregnant can sometimes cause it & some other things.

I'm so sorry your going through this - I've heard you can get false positives. Is this the test at the booking in appointment for HIV & syphillis? Wouldn't you of been tested for this with your son? And what did your doc say your next steps where? Xx

What and anxious time for you - but I suppose you've answered your own question about the false positives in your last paragraphs. It's just nice to know when it's actually happened to someone before though isn't it!

I remember reading a post like this a while ago where someone tested positive but the test was repeated or further investigations took place and she was not carrying the virus. I hope it all turns out ok for you.

H. tested positive for it when they first did the FDA testing for IVF; turned out to be an error at the lab and he didn't have it. It may be nothing more than a cerical error or poor lab habits.

Despite your axiety now, it's good to have the testing done just in case. My doctor still tests me every few years along with my lipid panels because if they're taking the blood anyway......and she knows I haven't had a sexual partner since 1999! Better safe than sorry.

I had to have a blood test done that actually tests for syphilis called an FTA or something. Results will be here hopefully Wednesday & until then it's all I can think of!

Thank goodness!!! That was soooo stressful! I guess hubby gets to live,lmao!

This has happened to me!!! I'm waiting now for the results of the confirmation test. I'm so worried. Been with DH for 8 years.. Had a test just before DH and I got together, and one 2 years ago when pg with DD, so why am I still worried.

I'm so annoyed it's taking forever for the test to come back. It's been well over 2 weeks.

Called the nurse dealing with it and she said I'm on the case.. Like I said it's very low levels and I don't think you've got syphilis but it's good to get confirmation.. You think so?!?!?

Honestly, I'm freaking out very day and can't think of anything else and I'm just so worried because it's taking so so long. That's what's worrying me!

I'm glad you found out & everything was okay! Sorry you had to feel exactly how worried I really was!!
