I went through a spat last year where my periods were very irregular so I set up appointments w my ob/gyn to see what was going on. One o fthe tests she performed was a vaginal ultrasound. While going the results a short time later, she told me one of my tubes was blocked??!!? I had never worried about my fertility before this, because I had never been TTC..now that we are, I am very concerned! Many people have told me there is no way to tell of a blocked tube with a vaginal u/s? Does anyone know? Is it impossible to see this from an ultrasound??

Thank u!!

It's supposed to be impossible, yeah.

That's what I was hoping! It wasn't even an u/s to see that! All info is appreciated girls!

I was told that the only way they can tell by ultrasound is if there is buldging in the tube or extra tissue spotted. I had an ultrasound and everything looked great. 3-4 months later I had an HSG test done and found my right tube is blocked, both tubes were blocked at the start of the HSG test but the dye opened up the left with some manipulations. They say the right is scarred likely caused by cysts I've had on the right ovary.

Thanks @messymommy! She so told me it was irreversible! Sounds like she jumped the gun a little bit??! Just now looking back, its making me a little nervous

It doesn't at all make sense that she would have seen this.

This is all so reassuring! She told me so nonchalantly as well, like it was no big deal! I made an appointment with another dr in the office for about a month from now!

I was told that I could get pregnant with just one open tube and if I didn't then they'd refer me to an RE for IUI to start with. I also was told that the blocked tube could possibly be opened up with surgery but that's not a high success rate I guess. As for now, they said for me to keep trying and see what happens in the next 6mos to a year. I did read and was told by the doctor that the good tube can pick up the eggs from the other ovary, she said it would grab up a good egg since the other tube won't work. Online I also found a few reads about this very thing and I guess it does happen.

I believe she said something about a low success rate surgery, I'm hoping to not have to worry either way!!

Anyone else know for sure if a vaginal u/s can see a blocked tube?

I don't think it can; you have to have an HSG test done. I had my tubes tied when I had my son, then decided to have them reversed. During my procedure they had complications. I went in for the HSG test, where they insert a catheter with dye in you and they watch that on a screen to see if it goes through your tubes; that is the only way I know they can tell if they are truely blocked.

I would definitely go see another doctor to find out what is going on. You can still get pregnant with one tube; I can attest to that cause I unfortunately had a chemical pg last month, but still hopeful as we are still trying to conceive again this month. Good luck!
