Well I finally have a moment so I thought I would write my birth story! I was due on Aug 10 and had my 40 week appointment the day before. My mw did an internal and said I was 75% effaced and 1cm dilated. After I felt a bit crampy and it continued through the night. I awoke during the night with fairly painful contractions. They were about 10 minutes apart. By 9am they were much stronger and had gotten to 6 minutes apart. I wasn't sure if I was really in labor as this had been happening to me several times over the last three weeks. I had made plans to go shopping with my mom and sister so I made my way over. We went to the mall and my sister starting timing the contractions
while we walked. At this point they were 5 minutes apart and became so painful I went home.
It started to set in that this was the real deal. We called the midwife and went to the clinic to see where we were at. I was only 3cm and 85% effaced at 5pm. DH took me home and I continued to labour (which was extremely painful) until 10pm when the mw came to my home to check
again. This time I was 4cm and 90% effaced so the
mw gave me a sweep and I lost the last bit of
my plug. The mw left and I continued until 12am where I started to feel like I couldn't copenwith the pain. So we made our way to the hospital. I was 7cm at this point and then things started to go wrong. Baby turned posterior and I stopped
progressing, in fact, I started to go in reverse. It was total agony. I had been coping using only gas and air but I was out of my mind from the pain. To
make matters worse the baby's heartbeat was showing stress so I had to be on a monitor and stay in bed. By 5:30am I broke down and requested the epidural... I was exhausted and had been in labor for 24hrs. I was able to rest for 2 hrs but my contractions were slowing and they were
considering inducing me. Luckily the doctor
said to give me one more hour to try to go naturally. The turned the epidural off and after an hour I dilated to 10. So at 10:30am I was able to start pushing! At 12:25pm I gave birth to my son, Dominc Robert, weighing 7 lbs 3 oz. The pushing was such a relief and luckily the baby turned so this part went smoothly. It hurt but felt so good to be actually doing something! I didn't need any stitches and have barely bled afterwards.
So though my experience wasn't what I thought it would be I couldn't be happier! My little man arrived one day after my due date after 33 hours of labor and I wouldn't change any of
it.
