My daughter is 4 months old. She's never STTN, and would usually wakes up 2 times a night to feed. But for the past 7-10 days, she's been waking up at 10pm, 1am, 3am, 5 am and is up for good at 6:30-7 am. Everytime she wakes up she drinks 4-5 oz, so it's at least 15 oz at night. Around 7:30 am she gets an 6-7 oz bottle, and for the rest of the day it's mainly 5oz bottles. I did the math and she's getting at least 30 oz during the day (she goes to bed around 7ish), so with the 15oz during the night, it's around 45oz!!! Surely that rule can't be right...

DH wants to start solids but I think she's still too young, but that's a lot of formula! I thought she was going through a growth spurt, but it doesn't usually last this long. I don't know what to think...

My lo was a guzzler too. He was on 9oz bottle 5 times a day at 4-5 months ish. Maybe increase the day bottles to avoid her filling up at night?

She usually doesn't drink more than 6-7 (sometimes 8) oz at a time, and if i try to wait for more than 3 hours between feeds she gets very fussy and starts crying. One time she had about 10oz and she had a major spit up on a couch:blush:

maybe offer 8 every 2.5 hours?

The amount your baby "needs" in a 24 hour period is 150ml x their weight in kg

There is a huge growth spurt at 16 weeks that folk like to confuse with the need for solids.

There is also the sleep regression so if your daughter is fed to sleep, it might be that she's waking in the night and doesn't know how to settle herself again without feeding back to sleep.

Give this a good week or so and then try to space her out to feeding every 4 hours. It should hopefully pass by then but babies often need more food at night at this time.

I know she had one at 12 weeks, but this one is pretty intense lol. Last night I tried to put her back to sleep with just the pacifier but she woke up 20 minutes later screaming bloody murder and drained a 6 oz bottle:shrug: I think 4 months is still a little too young for them to be able to ''self-soothe'', but I guess some babies do it sooner than others.

4 months is early to self soothe which is one of the reasons why so many regress at 4 months. I really would just go with it and feed - you have a little break after this growth spurt as I think the next one is 6 months but by that stage they're on solids and can have some proper food!

I hope this passes quickly for you x

That's exactly what I'm gonna do! At least at night as soon as she finishes her bottle she's back to sleep. I put her back in her crib and I'm good until the next feed :) She's an easy baby. Always smiles, rarely cries (unless she's hungry lol), and isn't really fussy unless she's tired.

How heavy is lo? Sam is 19lbs so 1oz per lb = 47ozs per day !!!

She was 11 lbs at 12 weeks, she hasn't been weighted since, but probably around 13-14 pounds. She's long though (26 inches)

Mine started doing the same thing for a few days at that age(but was only waking once). I realized she just needed more. I added up what she was taking during the day plus during the night and made sure she got it during the day. She stopped waking at night to eat. It was obvious she was hungry as she would scream her head off til i fed her and then went right back to sleep. I started feeding her twice before bed. An hour before she got one bottle, and then right before bed she got another. It worked for me :hugs:
