Im with Sims in Dublin. Left Merrion Fertility to be with them because Merrion don't believe in support meds of any kind. Im currently pregnant with a mountain of problems but sims have been wonderful. Both Dr Lyuda and Dr Omar have gone out of their way for us and have done so much hand holding and positive vides. The rest of the staff are wonderful, their premises are great, parking outside in their own car park etc, lovely waiting room where you can make your own tea/coffee.

Honestly I cannot recommend them enough. We've done IUI and ICSi with them so if you want to ask me anything feel free. My dh had no sperm and I've had recurrent m/c's.

Don't know anything about Lister sorry about that.

Hi Gill,

sorry, new to this site, so hope you don't mind me asking you about this...

We're also with Sims and Dr. Lyuda (so nice!). My dh has low count, morph and motility. We're on the road to ivf and starting in a few months.

Just wondering if that was your first icsi? I'm very nervous and stressed out about the whole thing. I'd appreciate any advice you could offer. Thanks!

Hi Ficidy, Yes it was our first ICSI. Dr Lyuda put the blasts back in herself (on a Sunday morning!). My dh had low everything sperm. Our problems were/are not alone getting pregnant, but also staying pregnant. At one point very early on we thought we had lost this pregnancy (well more than one really!) but it was just me being a freak and Sims were so good, took me in straight away and scanned me. The patience they have had with me has been phenomenal. I was thinking at the time that even if it was horrendous news, it was a nice place to hear it. After 2 m/c's and going through public hospitals, it was a night and day experience. Dr Lyuda scanned me every week until almost 13 weeks to help me through the worry. Don't be scared of the ivf. Those guys really know what they are doing, Honestly the worst thing I had to endure was an IUI. It turned out I had too many follicles and Dr Salma had to go in and puncture and drain all on one side before putting the sperm in. It was the right thing to do. They couldnt take a chance of a multiple pregnancy. Without pain meds, it hurt so bad!! The ICSI was a walk in the park compared to that. I got OHSS after they took the eggs out and they sorted me out immediately too. Had to go in and get drained (OHSS is flipping painful but I do have a funny story about it).

I also had a hematoma at 7 1/2 weeks, major bleed. They took me in immediately and scanned me for that too.

We have a frozen blast and if this pregnancy doesnt work out, we will be back to try it and honestly, if it does work out, we will probably go back and try it too. I would never be afraid to go back there. I felt so looked after.

We knew all the staff so well by the time we left, even the girls downstairs as I had multiple intralipid infusions. They all seem to love their jobs and genuinely want things to work out for the clients. I had to drive 3 hours round trip to the clinic and it was worth every second. You can ask me anything you like. Good luck. You will be in good hands.:hugs:

One other thing, I never felt like sims were trying to squeeze money out of us. Quite the opposite. They could have had us do multiple IUIs but Dr Lyuda was honest with us and also we ran the gauntlet with tests between there and Merrion and even though I wanted to go the whole hog and do the rest, Dr Lyuda saved us a few bob by just picking the most relevant ones as other tests we did gave indication where there was no problem. The best decision we ever made was to leave Merrion and go to Sims.

Thank you so much Gill. You are an absolute star for going to the trouble of typing up all that info!

We have another appointment with Lyuda in a few days. Will see where we go from there. Just wish it wasn't so expensive. This is going to break us... Really hope it works first time!!

Sounds like you're delighted with the service. That's great to hear. How long do you have left in your pregnancy? Hope it goes really well for you!!

We have been having treatment at the Lister and have also been very happy with the treatment. The staff are lovely (my consultant is James Nicopoullos) - he has been great and is even coming to do my FET on Tuesday - even though he's not on the rota for FET on tuesday - as I had a few issues with the last transfer.

I'd have no problem recommending the lister to anyone so based on the reviews of the other clinic from girls on here, I think you'd be fine at whichever one fits in best with where you live / cost

Good luck xx

It will be worth every penny no matter what the sacrifice. My poor DH is driving a car that is literally glued together and falling assunder :dohh: but we can't get another one. We had to beg, borrow and steal to get the funds together and are still paying people back and will be for a long time. Even if it doesn't end up successful, I think it was worth it. I added up all that we've spent so far between tests and whatnot and two clinics and we are over the 15k now. Luckily it wasn't all shelled out in one go so we had time to put a few quid by before having to pay for the next thing. You won't regret it. :hugs:

Im 15 weeks tomorrow. Early days but I never thought I would get to the second trimester so Im now nervously optimistic. Well sometimes anyway... Good luck with it all. Dr Lyuda will look after you.

Hi girls,

Sorry for jumping in. I just found your thread and thought maybe u could help me. I am also in Sims and with Dr. Lyuda. I have had 2 failed ICSIs (one with IMSI) and 3 failed IUIs and I need advice of where to go from here.

Brief history:

Me 31, dh 33

Me: Blocked tubes, extremely low amh, thyroid antibodies

Dh: Extremely low count and poor motility.

We have been ttc since April '09. Had a very early mis (4 weeks) in July '09. Then onto our first ICSI in Novemeber 2010 because we found out both my tubes were blocked. The ICSI failed miserably. I was on a long protocol - the pill, nasal spray, 600 puregon, luveris. We got 8 eggs - 3 were immature, 3 disintegrated upon touch of the needle, 2 fertilised (one of those didnt look great). We had a day 2 transfer with one embryo = BFN.

A month later I was waitng for my next period after failed cycle period. It was late. I was pregnant. A miracle. How with blocked tubes?? I lost our baby at 12 weeks in March 2011 with no reason. Tubes were rechecked to see what was going on. Both open but not great.

So 3 IUIs and 3 BFNs later I went for another lap and dye with hysteroscopy. Left tube blocked and right tube shit and wavy but a little bit open.

So onto ICSI with IMSI. On a short protocol - NO pill, spray or luveris. On estrogen priming protocol 600 gonal f, steroids, intralipids. Was on DHEA for 3 months prior. Only got 3 eggs even though had about 8 nice sized follies. Empty follicles??? 3 eggs fertilised. We were going to day 5. Phonecall on day 4 to say embryos had slowed in progession and they were giving them another 24 hrs. Next day embryos had all stopped. No transfer. That was just yesterday so I'm devastated at the moment.

So my questions are:

Have any of u gone through more than 2 failed ivfs / icsis with such poor results? What can be done differently? My eggs are obviously of poor quality so can anything work for me?

Should I be tried on a completely different protocol?

Is there anyone I can go to for advice / opinions - another fertility specialist? Can anyone help us?? K*nt ayers - i have seen his name mentioned on threads. What does he do???

Should we move clinics, go abroad??? Is it time to give up on my own eggs if they always seem to be of poor quality?

Any success stories after 2 failed ivfs? Are my chances decreasing now that it has failed twice?

I am going back up to S*Ms on saturday. Do any of u have questions I should ask?

Please help me if you can because I am just lost

so so sorry to hear all of your misfortune :-(
My GP and Kent Ayres has said to me, those that fail at S*** go on to have success at Lister in London.
I went for a consult there to Dr Parikh ..
Im only starting this whole process and doing my 1st IUI with sims next month

So Here it goes u have had a consult in Lister?? How did u go about getting a consultation? Did your gp or kent ayers refer u??

Hey, I self-referred. Im going to do the IUI at sims first and maybe ivf with them too as the cost of last min flights and accom/food at Lister is just too much. But if you have already tried at sims, I would really really encourage you to go to lister as my gp and kent said they are where people go and succeed having failed her =. Hope this helps xx

Hi Wishful Think, You've been through the ringer big time. I do know people personally who went through countless failed ivf's and who eventually did manage to have a baby. Given all your issues, I don't think IUI's are any use. I only did one and wasn't prepared to waste time, money, energy and sanity doing more. My sister did donor eggs and she has a beautiful little girl. If our ICSI hadn't worked (and we are not out of the woods yet by a long shot) we would be going for donor eggs to be honest with you and to increase our chances we would even be doing donor sperm too. We had similar problems to you guys - amh, anti tpo antibodies etc, hubby crap sperm, yada yada. You have some time on your side at least. There are other options for you guys. It's not the end of the road. You just need to take a new direction. Im really rooting for you.xx Good luck no matter what you choose.

Hi girls, wishing you the very best with your treatment. I'm with sims too and under Dr Walsh, he seems very direct and not the most approachable but at the same time seems to have a good rep. We've been ttc for two years and are unexplained.amh is 15 He's recommending iui for 3 goes because i'm so young 30 but i'm really confused whether i should just ask for ivf as worried about the costs- so unsure- obviously if i thought iui would work i'd go with that but success rates don't seem to be great from what i gather reading on forums. Any advice would be very much appreciated, i'm so confused about the whole thing. thanks

Hi Calalily, althought I wasnt under Dr Walsh, I did have him for a few things. He did initial SIS and found endometriosis which I will forever be greatful for. Also he came in especially from his Christmas Holidays to scan me because we thought there was a problem and Dr Lyuda was away. He was lovely. You are right, he is direct but his reputation goes far and wide. The registrar in the Lourdes Hosp was talking to me about him the other day. And while we were there for that scan at Christmas and I was doing everything humanly possible to keep baby, he did sit us down and see if there was anything else, any other pill, injection, anything, I could take. Turned out there was nothing else except even more intralipids!! He does seem to know what he is talking about. Why don't you try one medicated IUI? They will be able to tell a lot from that as to how you react to the drugs and see then if you want to do IVF. The medication is tough and you may want to cut to the chase and do IVF after that. You don't need to make a decision on a longer plan than just the treatment ahead. And you never know, it just might work!! It's all such a gamble really isn't it? Good luck with it. Fingers crossed it works first time. :hugs:

Thank you for your reply, it's great to get some advice from other people in this sit as it's hard to make some of these decisions! Wishing you the very best with your pregnancy :flower:
