The losers club

What are we all up to this weekend anyway? We're going get Rory in bed shortly and then order a takeaway (no change there then) then tomorrow is the last home game of cricket which I am actually really sad about. For the first time in 6 years of cricket I am sad of the season coming to an end!!!! Really enjoyed it this year plus the fact we have been to the club on a Saturday night most weeks for a few drinks whilst Rory's been in bed. Those far away monitors are great!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! :haha: no, weve been lucky enough for in laws or my mum to come over to sit in for a couple of hours. Last game is next week and going have Rory stop at his nans cus I'm sure it will be a late night!
Going get the BBQ on on Sunday because I'm sure it will be the last time this "summer" that we can. The weather forecast isn't bad to be fair over the next week. Not warm but dry and sunny which is good!

I'm doing nada! I'm stuck in waiting for a repairman tomorrow while DH is at work, and DH will be watching F1 for most of Sunday. I might take madam to the beach if the weather's nice on Sunday though.

Sorry staph, didn't see your post. I wish we had a beach near by, would love just to be able pop along the beach!

Staph? Isn't that a disease?

No, I haven't seen the batchelor. My crap tv love is Hollyoaks :)

Yeah, it's great being by the beach. Holly is obsessed with the sea, and it's usually bloody freezing!

Well today was crappy :( Supposed to find out the result of my interview (after them telling me last friday I'd find out today, bearing in mind I had the interview on 20th and it was the 3rd date I was given after they cancelled the first one and didn't tell me then changed the next date via email) but now I won't find out till next week sooooooooo annoyed.

And the survey on the house has gone crap!! Nothing like the house is falling down, but loads of mediumish things which add up to one big headache. I think we'd need to spend 15k before we could even start on the decorating. The vendor lied about getting the boiler serviced regularly and surveyor said I'd probably need replacing. The flat roof at the front has rotten joists right above the boiler and fuse box so is obviously leaking and would need doing straight away, there's straw in the loft for insulation (wtf?!!!! Seriously!), asbestos in the roof of the shed, he couldn't sign off the electrics and gas as being safe so we'd need to get an electrician in to check them over, they took out the window and door from the kitchen to conservatory without getting building regs permission, plus other niggly bits like no ventilation in the bathroom, decking in the garden comes to close to the house and is blocking the airbrick on the house so needs sorting, the windows and front door all need re-masticking plus other bits we'd want to do like new kitchen, bathroom, moving the drain from insiede the conservatory to outside, the conservatory roof, decorating, getting the drive done (which would involve lowering a drain) I can see it being a real money pit! It's so annoying as it's all stuff that could have been avoided if the people that lived there now actually maintained the house and when they got things done they didn't do bodge jobs!! Everything is just really shoddy workman shiip in there and I', worried about what else we might find once we strip wallpaper and remove the kitchen etc.

So feeling pretty meh at the moment!!

That's funny nats! Nice way to introduce yourself!!

Sorry span!! Stupid iPad!!!

so sorry to hear that blondey. What are you going to do then? How old is the house by the way?

Span........... Omg, SAPH!!!!!! Sorrrrrrryyyyyy

Don't think we will to be honest :-( Just too much to do and more money than we are prepared to spend! And you know more stuff will be revealed once we start pulling up flooring and taking down wallpaper etc. I'd rather look back and regret not getting the house than take the house and a year down the line have ploughed so much money into it and start resenting living there. And once you start spending money and doing jobs then you have to finish otherwise what you've already spent will be wasted.

House was built in the 60's so not old in the grand scheme of things. And we weren't naive in thinking the survey wouldn't throw up anything. But it's lots of medium things that all together add up to a very big thing iykwim?

Rubbish as we were getting all excited and I kept looking at the pictures on the estate agent website and looking at how we could decorate etc.

That's such a shame. I suppose if you were planning on staying there then it's worth it but I'm sure you have said you don't plan on staying there for the long haul do you?

Maybe it's just not meant to be! I know that you felt like you had to rush into finding somewhere because you had sold your flat and maybe in your heart of hearts it wasn't what you were really after anyway :hugs:

We'd be there for a good few years, but it wouldn't be our forever home. We agree on 190k and if we ploughed all the money we had into it we'd be looking at about 40k to do the work, but in 6/7 years time we wouldn't make that money up so it doesn't make sense iykwim? It's not only that, but it's alos the stress of doing it all. And as I only work pt I know my days off will be spent staying in for various trademan to do bits and pieces. And it's be so disheartening spending 15k actually making it safe re boiler, electrics, leaky roof and not really being able to see the benefits of that money (not liek when you do carpets and wall papering etc) Well, I guess that's what you get surveys for at the end of the day. £400 could have saved us a lot of money in the long run. Don't think most of this stuff would have been a nice surprise!!

Might look to go and see this one. Similar, not as big but looks in better condition:

That looks lovely house. Just not meant to be that's all. That's how you have got to look at it. Reading this makes me want to have a new build even more! We're going to go have discussions at a new build development estate on Sunday and see what they can offer us regarding part exchange etc

Moving into a new build is great, however I'm not sure what it's like where you are, but round here they are tiny for the money with postage stamp gardens. Our flat is a new build but we are soooooo lucky with the bedroom sizes. We'll most likely have to down grade when in a house.

Goodness all so stressful!!

I think what makes it worse is I'd always kick myself if we did move to that house and it went pear shaped and we'd moved from here, somewhere that is convient to my work, train station of oh, my parents, is nicely decorated and we can save a lot of money each month and I can nip down the asda and spend £30 without worrying about it (like I did today  )

I know things happen for a reason, just gutted it's the second house that's gone wrong now!!

Oh Is it the 2nd one?? What happened on the first, remind me?
Do you think your having 2nd thoughts about the whole moving?

:( Blondey. Unfortunately stuff often does go wrong when it comes to the housing market. A few years ago my parents were meant to be buying a flat in Brighton, and it fell through twice. They ended up buying in Weybridge instead, which turned out to be a good thing. They made a load of money on their flat even though the housing market is crap, and have a lovely house in Brighton now instead. It's a lot easier when you're buying your first place because the chain is less complicated iykwim. And then there's poor buggers like us who are stuck with a house in negative equity that we can't sell, and have to rent a one bed flat to live in  My first house also didn't sell, so I let my ex have my share and he's still stuck in it. That was a nice house too, but the problem was that we bought it at the height of the market, on a 100% mortgage. I haven't had much luck when it comes to houses :haha:

I prefer old houses, proper old ones like over 100 years. They are so solid compared to new builds, although I have seen some lovely new builds as well. Our flat is a traditional granite tenement so the walls are massive thick hunks of stone. Most of the property in Aberdeen is granite, so looks lovely in the sunshine (the flecks sparkle) but a bit grim and grey in the rain.

Or people like me who are going to be stuck with two mortgages!!! Eeekkk!
I love old houses too saph. Both DH and I grew up in ones built about 1900, lovely high ceilings etc. Then we moved to a tenement, so these modern builds with their low ceilings freak me out!! :haha:
:hugs: blondey. Must be third time lucky. You are right to look on the bright side.
Fabby, good luck with the part exchange deal, I can def see the attraction of a new build, much easier to clean, easy to decorate, nice new everything...
Hope you have a lovely time at the cricket club. My younger brother plays, but up here it gets rained off a lot. :haha: I picture you guys being in midsommer murders type setting- so funny!
Love the new pic saph, such a cutie.

The first one sold before we could sell the flat.

It is sucky but we have a place to live that we can afford and can afford to save so I shouldn't be too selfish!!

Feeling a bit brighter today, there's about 4 houses we want to go look at. I think we've pretty much decided it'll be too much work and stress for us. My parents took on a bit of a project when me and my brother were young and really regret it so I don't want to end up feeling like that. If there were half or 3/4's of the things on the list we'd maybe consider it, but altogether it's just too much.

I was just blowing kisses to AM and she's such a daft girl, she was doing it back, but instead of pulling her hand away from her face to blow the kiss she was slapping her self in the face!! She also says again but it comes out 'gay' :haha: Just watched a cooking programme and she was shouting 'ninner' which is dinner.

Anyone up to anything today? Just waiting for OH to have a sleep as he was on nights last night. Hopefully he won't sleep for too long as he had about 3 hours kip at work last night!!

:haha: AM. I think you're right to look at other houses, especially if there's plenty about.

My repairman is here, so I might go out later. Best put some make up on first, or I might scare someone  I'm having trouble understanding the repairman, he's got such a broad Aberdonian accent I'm having to guess half of it :haha:
