Hi ladies

Just wondering what your opinions are on the name Freddie. I've had mixed opinions from people, some saying he'll get nicknamed Fred?

Also, second name suggestions please?

My sons middle name is Alexander and so we were considering using the same middle name but not sure xxx

Freddie is a nickname not a name, never known a nickname shortened to name but it will look silly on a CV however if you use a longer name he will easily be shortened to and known as Freddie

longer versions:

Alfred
Frederic
Manfred
Wilfred

sometime you could go a bit more out there, Freddy Mercury real name was Farrokh

or just plain simple Fred

I find it weird repeating the same middle name, it feels lazy to use one you already have when their are literally millions upon millions of names out there

other suggestions you might like:

Allan
Daniel
George
Theodore
Edward
Timothy
Matthew
Anthony
James
Wesley
Thomas
Michael
Samuel
Walter
Charles
Lawrence
Joseph
Nicolas
Harold
Arther
Gregory
Elijah

My son is Frederick and we call him Freddie, the only comments against I have had is mil and that's more to do with she doesn't like the name is from my side of family as he is named after my granddad. Nobody shortens it to Fred, the only nickname he has other than Freddie is my daughter calls him diddy Freddie, or diddy. I love my sons name. It makes me laugh though, my friend who has a son with an equally old fashioned name (my daughters name is old fashioned to) said going in to nursery and toddler group is like an old peoples homes with the names hahaha

I really like Freddie (and Fred!). I think that if he did get called Fred by some people you could just say that his name is Freddie and they will take the hint!

We have Alfred Benjamin picked out for if we have another boy in future. Freddie is the nickname we're hoping would stick. X

I don't like Freddie much but it's just a taste thing; it's a perfectly fine name. I do prefer longer versions though, especially Alfred (though I'd go for the nn. Alfie) and Wilfred, as it gives some grown up sounding options. I think if his full name is just Freddie he might shorten it to Fred if he ever wants an adult version of his name.

Personally, I don't like it for a name, I can't see it suiting an adult. But it's a great nickname, and really is nice x
