So I went in for my follow up scan today at 6+5 and saw baby bean with a heartbeat of 140!! strong little one <3 :baby:

My MIL is going to host a gender reveal party for us and I wanted to put together a board full of old wives tales predictions for babys' gender. I have been looking online for some different ways people say can "predict" the gender and one of them being which side baby implanted on in the uterus, I believe it says if implanted on left means boy, on right means girl. So we ask the ultrasound tech and she tells me it didn't implant on either and that it is a myth. Which is weird because with my friend they were able to tell her which side it was implanted on. I'm just wondering why I'm getting mixed information here?

She also felt the need to tell me every fetus has a normal heart rate around 140 at about 6 weeks and that the old wives tale for babys heart rate is also a myth.....like this lady was seriously raining on my parade today!!

The implantation side actually isn't a myth, it was a scientific study by Ramzi. Google "Ramzi Method" and it should pop up. It's also supposed to be left side for girl, right side for boy. The tech should be able to tell you which side you implanted on, unless you implanted dead center, but at the very least they should tell you what side you ovulated on as that is generally the side you implant on (not always, but usually). Of course all of these gender predictors should be taken with a grain of salt, but it's really fun to do them. The Ramzi method was correct for my first pregnancy. I implanted on the left and had a baby girl.

So what I'm wondering is why they didn't tell me even that. She just looked at me like I was a dumba** and told me it's just in the middle and that it is a myth. I'm just super confused right now.

Doesn't sound like you had a very friendly tech! Maybe she isn't very good at her job and didn't feel like telling you she just doesn't know because she's the dumbass :haha: Seriously though, most of the girls in my birth group from back then asked and their tech all gave them an answer, and it actually was right most of the time, but again, it's all in fun. You could try putting your scan pic up in the gender prediction category and ask people to weigh in on the Ramzi method. I've seen other's do that, but I've heard you really need to find out from the tech since the picture isn't always representative of what was seen during the u/s. But since she was a buffoon and couldn't/wouldn't tell you, maybe give it a shot.

Lol thanks! I think I'll do that - also, when I asked her if I could have a picture of the ultrasound she said "if there's a baby then yes i'll give you a photo"

...I thought it was kinda rude. UGH!!! But thanks so much girl!

OMG! She is in the wrong profession!!! What if the u/s hadn't gone well and there was something wrong. Rude is and understatement. What a #%^&#! Well congrats on your baby bean! That's so sweet your MIL is throwing you a gender reveal. Are you hoping for one over the other?

That's what I was thinking!! I just shut my mouth because I was just happy to finally have my scan since I waited 2 weeks from my last one and only saw a sac!! I know! I can't wait lol I've heard of them before so this is my first time actually having one as we didn't with DD!! I kinda want a boy - kinda want a girl only because DH likes the weirdest, dumbest names ever for a boy. LMAO :dohh:

 about your DH and the names! It's so hard to find names that you both can agree on. We haven't talked much about names yet because I know he's going to make me want to pull my hair out of my head

Oh I'm so sure!!! Men are so weird lol!!! Does yours want to consider the name Optimus Prime? :growlmad: How far are you? What are you guys hoping for?

Just seen your ticker!!! 5 weeks congrats!!

Thanks! My scan isn't for another 3 weeks and I think I might die waiting that long. My OB here won't do them until 7 weeks and he's totally booked up my whole 7th week so I'm stuck at 8. I know I could probably go to the FS I saw and get one earlier, but I'm just trying to wait patiently :coffee: We'll see how well that goes!

Oh geez! Optimus Prime?! It sounds like an option to a membership at a club or something! Have fun with that one :haha: Better hope for team :pink: for sure!

We both want another little girl. My husbands from an all boy family, so having girls is a nice change for them. For me, I probably want it because my sister and I are really close and I want that for my daughter. Plus I'm really girly and I just love little girls to pieces! Of course we will be happy either way, but preference is towards team pink. Plus we already have all the stuff, so that would make it easier

AW oh my gosh! I would definitely be losing my mind too! 3 weeks is super long to wait! I'm crazy as it is, so I know I'd probably end up going to the ER and begging for an ultrasound lol :haha: either that or planned parenthood as they do ultrasounds for cheap in my area hehe!!
Props to you for sticking it out though!! :)

See those are pretty much all the same reasons I would love another girl too! DH is the 3rd of 3 boys and my MIL is the last bio girl born on their side of the family since her sister adopted 2 girls and everyone else had all boys!! Girls are so much fun! Pink pink pink!! :happydance:

I'm already thinking I might call the other doctor for an earlier scan....

On the subject of fun old wives tales, you're supposed to be able to determine the gender by using a crystal on a pendulum and dangling it over the bump. You "ask" the crystal questions and see which way it spins (clockwise or counter-clockwise) and can determine the sex that way! I have no idea how useful/useless it is but either way you get a lie down whilst they do the crystal dangling!

I caved Bombshell! Going for an early ultrasound next Wednesday

LOL that's hilarious!!! Told you I totally would too!! ;) :happydance: hoping everything goes well for you!!

you have to post a picture afterwards!!!

Sorry that your tech was so rude Heidi! :hugs:

Shellgirl is right about the Ramzi method, right side means boy, left means girl. This was also correct for me last pregnancy as I implanted on the right side and had a boy. This time I implanted on the left side so I have my FXed for my :pink: bump this time.

Maybe you'll get a better idea of where your bean is located in the uterus when you're a little further along?

Good luck with your scan Shellgirl! I hope that it brings you good news and that you have your second :pink: bundle in there.

Ughhhh I wish they told me already!!!! I don't think I asked her to do too much work lmao!!
Did they just tell you which side you implanted on? or did you have to ask? I swear I have the most inexperienced people ever, I always get the student nurses putting IV's in me as well, they never ask! LOL my luck. as you know keely, if you remember my rant from my appointment a few weeks ago!

i hope you both get your girlies as well!!! <3 i'm good with either i guess, but would secretly like another girl lol

I hope that you get your second girlie too! If you do end up with a boy though I can promise you that boys are so wonderful and sweet, I love my little guy to pieces and mother-son bonds are so special. <3

I knew it was on the left but I did ask my doctor for just in case for the confirmation and he also said that it was on the left. I had a transvaginal ultrasound last time and an abdominal ultrasound this time. Transvaginal ultrasounds are true to whichever side baby is implanted on (so basically whichever side it's implanted on you can see which side of your abdomen that would be like you would with your hands to tell right from left since someone looking at you facing forward is going to see your right hand to their left). Abdominal ultrasounds are a mirror image so whichever side the baby is implanted on for the ultrasound picture is the side of your abdomen that the baby is actually on (so for an abdominal ultrasound if baby is on the left in the picture it is on the left side of your uterus but for a transvaginal ultrasound if your baby is on the left on the screen it is actually on the right side of your uterus).

that's what everyone keeps telling me as well :) I know DH would love a little boy as well. for some reason I'm terrified of the circumcision debate - i didn't have to worry about it with DD but there is so much controversy and I worry if I am making the wrong decisions etc.

AHH i see!! Well I will ask definitely next time :) I just cant understand why they made me feel like I was stupid for asking which side it was on. Everyone else gets told what the hell lol

Based on your picture it looks to me (key word being looks) like this bean implanted on the right for you but I don't really know for sure since it's a 6 week ultrasound and I don't know if the tech just got you at a weird angle or what because of the way your uterus is shaped in the picture (so I can't tell if that's actually the bottom of your uterus on the right side there or if it's the actual right side of your uterus). It would just be a thousand times easier for me to tell when you're a little further along so that I can tell which way baby is facing.

Liam was born with Chordee so we're getting that fixed next month and he will have to have a circumcision with the operation, we don't get a choice. Honestly I don't mind having an uncircumcised boy but according to my mother (who works in the medical field) uncircumcised boys get a lot more infections and have a higher risk of contracting diseases but I don't know if she's right or not. Ultimately it's your own choice, complications with circumcisions are incredibly rare but a lot of people believe that they are completely unnecessary. Honestly part of the reason I'm hoping for a girl this time is that I don't want to have even a chance of going through something like this again and frankly I don't want to have to make the to circ or not to circ decision either.
