Hi Ladies,
Just popping over from the third trimester. Please don't think I'm being patronising but I have been having a long, hard thing about my pregnancy this time, and there are some things that made me laugh, and things that made me sad, and some things I wish I'd known back then. I'm 39 weeks today with number 2 (a boy) and number 1 is 15 months old next week, so lots of things are very fresh in my memory!
1) Cramping is ok. The first trimester is so scary in every shape and form, but with #1, I cramped from start to finish. I constantly felt as though my AF was due. If there's no bleeding, there's generally nothing to worry about.
2) Early MC is common and often inevitable. No one wants it to happen, but we did lose our first. I blamed myself, and it had a lot to do with my awful PND after #1. Very rarely can you avoid it.... and it is possible to conceive again (we didn't even wait for AF before TTC again) and carry a healthy baby to term.
3) It's normal to check your knickers and the TP every time you go to the loo!
4) Later on, no one at the hospital will call you a time waster if you go in for reduced movements. #1 used to go hours at a time with nothing (I had an anterior placenta and it cushioned his movements)... it's so vital to keep track of movements
5) Hyperemesis gravidarum is awful, and will make you realise what you did to deserve it, and lots of women will have it in subsequent pregnancies, but not all.... I was SO poorly first time, but was only sick til 8 weeks this time.
6) Disappearing symptoms don't necessarily mean bad things. In both pregnancies, mine came and went. After such appalling MS, I panicked if I had a 'good day'. Make the most of them! I didn't have sore boobs at all this time.
7) Lines that get lighter on HPTs aren't necessarily a bad thing and can depend on the maker, sensitivity, and batch. I did 11 tests with #1, and 7 with this one; eventually, I got CBDigis which say PREGNANT in big letters, and left it at that!
8) Don't be bullied in to *anything*.... this is your body, your birth and your baby. Be educated and aware, and make decisions that make you happy.
9) Don't wish it away. 9 Months seems like forever, but look at my siggy to see how fast things change!
10) mother Nature is a clever old stick, and makes you forget VERY quickly the pain and discomfort of pregnancy and birth...
11) It's perfectly safe to have cats when pregnant, and to be honest, if you've had cats for a while you're probably immune to toxoplasmosis anyway. Lots of hand washing, and sensible hygiene precautions are all that's needed, especially with regards to bleaching worktops and keeping litter trays scrupulously clean
xxxxx
