Hey All! :hi:

I wasn't really sure where to post this, so figured this would
Be the best place.

Once baby number two is a year old, I'm going to start college. I have been thinking very hard on becoming a kindergarten teacher.

I was just curious of those of you who are teachers.
how do you like your job? Are you happy with your dicision or wish you had done something different?

THank you for any and all responses!! :flower:

 I have always wanted to become a primary school teacher and when I fell pregnant I had to put it on hold for a few years, I have decided that in September I will join night college when the baby will be seven months, I was interested in your thread and am going to keep an eye on other peoples replies as well as I need some answers too :flower:

I am a stay at home mum at the minute but am a teacher, i absolutely loved my job, i miss it lots, its challenging, but so rewarding and no two days are the same! x

Thank you for the replies. :)

I keep reading into it and getting more and more excited.
Being able to inspire little ones is so thrilling. And I was looking at pictures teachers were showing off their classrooms to show what they do to help the children learn. That would be really fun creating a fun and educational classroom.
And children say the craziest stuff ever as well and being able to inspire and teach them just seems like the greatest job ever!

Good luck mummy to be! :D
And thank you for sharing your experience Scally! :flower:

Ive always wanted to be a history teacher and I've finally got onto a course! Delighted. I start in September. Its going to be incrediably hard and the workload is immense especially with Beth being 20 months then. But its all I want to do career wise.

I am a high-school maths teacher. Fully qualified when I was 23 years old, and am now 34, so over 10 years!!

I loved my job, it was the best thing ever, until I got pregnant and had my first child....when I returned part-time to my job my child was the most important thing to me and I dont feel I give 100% to my job anymore - I guess I just have to accept that.

I have just had baby no2, and will have another year off maternity and then return part-time to my job - so....with children I dont feel I can give it as much as I used to....but it is a great job!

Good luck!:flower:

I teach history, bloody hard work and long hours and very stressful, but incredibly rewarding. Luckily I love it. You must have passion to put up with the shit :D

I work part time in a primary school at the moment as a assistant, I'm going to start my teacher training course in September :) I can't think of anything else that I'd rather do! Working with children is so rewarding, plus it's a secure job and very family-friendly considering all the holidays. It is a lot of work though, but if you are organised it won't be a problem!

becoming a teacher is a job that is full of excitement .we can spend a good time with kids.

I see in your avi you want to try in 2012...still on now you're doing a PGCE? We'd love another baby, but going to wait so I can qualify at least.

I'm hoping to become a teacher...! Have been applying for gtp places and am hoping to get one and start in September! Oh is an English teacher and I used to work in a schoon so am keeping fingers crossed...

GTP are impossible to find for history. And the competiton is insane! I'm delighted to get onto the PGCE :happydance: Institute of Education woo hoo!

I'm a primary school teacher though I'm currently working as a Special Needs Advisor for the Local Authority.

I would love, love, love to get back into school and have a class to teach again but my current job means I don't have to put LO into nursery for 11+ hours a day and I have my weekends free mostly to be with him and DH.

I don't want to put people off cos it is such a rewarding career and I really miss it but its a job you will want to put 100% into and that's really hard with your own kids. And its a job that will take over your whole life if you let it!

Hey

Well done! I´ve just got on to PGCE too but for primary :happydance:

My dh is a teacher and while it is a brilliant job and well paid, he has to give 100% all the time. He works long hours, usually 7.30-5.30 at least plus work at home. I have to do all the nursery runs around my work 3 days a week.

Whenever Evan is ill I have to take annual leave because as teachers, they don't have any leave to take.

There is no flexibility with holidays and you can only fit within your schools dates - we wanted 2 weeks holiday away at Easter next yr but his school is only giving teachers 9 days (kids gt 2 weeks) so we can't.

It is also a nightmare when he has lots of parents evening, opening evenings, revision sessions etc - I feel like a single parent.

As a mum, I would struggle with this workload and commitment but you do get school holidays off which for us is a godsend for childcare.

My oh is also a teacher and head of year 8... He does work long days but is normally home by 5 unless it's parents eve or a trip. He also manages to get all marking and paperwork done in school hours so not all teaches do loads of work outside school...!

I teach Year 1 in Australia. Teaching is a very challenging, busy, exhausting and rewarding profession. Your hours go long before and after school hours, weekends, holidays etc. It is emotionally demanding as you deal with so many children, their families, other staff etc. However, if you have a real passion for helping children and giving tirelessly of yourself to others, it is the most wonderful profession you could choose!

Thank you! Well done too!

Well done hun!!

Is your degree in history? I would love to teach secondary, but my degree is in law and for ks3 your degree needs to be related to the topic you want to teach.

I did look around for primary GTP places, but no schools near me were doing it! Might look at doing the PGCE for primary when LO is older if I haven't found a career by then!

blondey haven't seen you on here for ages! Happy Birthday to Ava-Mae for last week! Yeah I have a BA in history and an MA in modern history so it was deffo history for me! The competition for PGCE places is mad; it took me 3 years to finally get in. GTP....those are impossible!! I've heard of people that have been TAs for years not getting on one!
