Thinking of becoming a teacher...

Yeah I haven't been on as much felt we haven't belonged in baby club for a while and wasn't brave enough to venture over to toddlerville! But seeing as LO has been walking for over a month now, I think it's time!!

Exciting stuff about your course! Do you start this year? What are you doing childcare wise with Beth? I go back to work next month :-( boooo! Although I would have been off 14 months  so can't complain too much!

I think a lot of the GTP places are about who you know. My friend did GTP. She was a TA at a special needs/behavioural issue school then got on the GTP at the primary school her and her 3 brothers went to.

Yeah you're right about the GTP. I find baby club not very relevant too, but feel like a fraud over on the toddler forum as she's only 12.5 months! She's walking too though so that's one thing!

Yeah I start the PGCE in September, using a mixture of grandparents and OH to cover childcare. Scary but I need to take the plunge!

My dh is a teacher and while it is a brilliant job and well paid, he has to give 100% all the time. He works long hours, usually 7.30-5.30 at least plus work at home. I have to do all the nursery runs around my work 3 days a week.

Whenever Evan is ill I have to take annual leave because as teachers, they don't have any leave to take.

There is no flexibility with holidays and you can only fit within your schools dates - we wanted 2 weeks holiday away at Easter next yr but his school is only giving teachers 9 days (kids gt 2 weeks) so we can't.

It is also a nightmare when he has lots of parents evening, opening evenings, revision sessions etc - I feel like a single parent.

As a mum, I would struggle with this workload and commitment but you do get school holidays off which for us is a godsend for childcare.

Hmm. It does sound demanding, but I'm in the military currently. So anything with summers off sounds AMAZING to me. Lol.

Right now I work from 0630 to 5:30 p.m. And we have to go to the field for two weeks where we basically live in the woods..lol and I have to leave little one with friends. :nope: and risk year long deployments away from my baby.

And we only get 4 weeks of leave a year. And sometimes I can't get Christmas time off. So anything that gives me holidays and summer time and weekends to spend with my children feels like a Godsend. Would truely love life! And the fact I get to spend work with developing minds and children instead of with bitter adults sounds like a plus as well! Lol.
