this is going to sound weird but i have a bunch of plastic diaper covers in a large size i was given. do you think it be possible to llike cut the sides some how sew some pretty fabric to them and add snaps to make them adjustable? they are boring and ugly lol

I think it could work- if you make sure that you don't have your pretty fabric in contact with the fitted diaper, you shouldn't have wicking You might have to finish the edges/attach the two layers together with some kind of bias tape that is nylon or some other non-wicking material- just thinking of the way the edges are finished on my Motherease wraps...
