how many cycles on clomid did it take for you to get your bfp? my doctor just prescribed it to me to start this month and I'm debating on holding off because we are going to Disney in Sept. so i was going to wait til then to start it....i know my sister in law had my nephews (twins) after her first round of clomid...but is first month success the norm?

thanks ladies...I'm a little nervous to take it, I've only been trying for 8 months (I'm 32) so I didn't really think I was to the point where I needed it yet...also, I have regular periods and I always thought that I was ovulating just fine as I get cramping when I ovulate, so I don't see how clomid could help if I'm ovulating without it (I suppose there is a chance I"m not, I don't temp so I have no real proof of ovulation)

Hey love, I didn't want to read and run. My blood tests indicated that I did ovulate on my own, but when I did ovulation predictors & charted BBT, my doctor and I found that I actually wasnt ovulating. I had the right hormones, it just wasnt happening. I did my first round of Clomid (at 50mg) in June 2010. I went for 21 day blood tests. I got my results a week later-- I had not ovulated from that Clomid round, and was obviously not pregnant. This month (July) I was put on 100 mg of clomid, I went for my 21 day blood tests, and tomorrow I will find out if it was successful or not. I'm very hopeful... but still not that optimistic. The old "hope for the best, expect the worst" thing, I guess. So no, I wouldnt say that First Round Success is the norm... but it does happen. It just depends on your situation. No one will really be able to tell you. But I wish you the best of luck & baby dust !!

I have last night just started my second round of Clomid. First round of Clomid worked for me as in I did ovulate, got a good lining and everything just didnt catch it. I have a friend who caught on her first month of Clomid but I most certainly would not say 1st cycle is the norm.

I can see what you mean about the Clomid most FS only give Clomid within such a short space of time if there are known problems such as PCOS, Non ovulation etc. However he may have given you it to make the eggs more viable.

Personally I would not want to wait to start taking it as it would just be putting back what I want so desperately and I could cope without going on all the hardcore rides if I meant I was to get a baby but that is just my opinion and how I would feel x

The 3rd round on clomid was my lucky charm. However, I also did IUI for the first time with my 3rd clomid cycle, so my pregnancy could be due more to the IUI. I'll never know! Good luck.

Taking a break does NOT mean I want it any less than you....we booked the vacation because we needed to take a break, we didn't take a break because we needed a vacation - there is a big difference......the stress of "let's go, I'm ovulating" etc. is taking it's toll and we need a break....but to each their own, you do what is best for you and I will do what is best for me - only I will do it without judging others.

You're in my thoughts, I hope this is your lucky month!! :hugs:

I just wanted to say good luck! I am starting my first round of clomid (50mg) this cycle also!! I have always gotten regular periods too but do not ovulate! I hope this is the answers to our prayers.:happydance:

Good luck to you as well :hugs: ....do you get any symptoms of ovulation? I seem to get cramping down low when I "should" be ovulating so I just assumed I was...my doctor said I could be cramping because I am gearing up to ovulate but I just need a little help with getting the follicle to burst out....we'll see, hopefully this works :)

Please keep me posted on your progress :)

I did not ovulate on 50 mg of clomid. My RE is upping my dosage next cycle. Don't want to sound discouraging, but I wouldn't assume Clomid will work right away.

Yes, I get cramps that I always assumed were ovulation cramps. I also would get egg white mucus but would never get a positive opk. I hope your doc is right! I will keep u posted and you do the same:hugs:

I got my BFP first cycle using clomid - BUT I also did IUI. I OV'd on my own - but the FS was concerned about my short cycles, and the fact that I have DOR. We had been ttc for over 2 years and Clomid was the next step of things to try... luckily it worked wonders for me - i got 3 follicles (50mg), and now a BFP.

Have my first appt next Tues to check everything is ok so far - and see how many there are - OH is so scared it'll be twins!!

I too was apprehensive about taking it - I initially told myself we would never go down the fertilitiy drug route, but funny how these things change over time. I took it at night-time before I went to bed, as I read here that that can help reduce the side effects. I also took Robitussin to counteract the CM-factor (although with IUI this doens't actually matter). I was fine on it - no side effects, other than one day half way through taking them when I spend the entire day in tears - that wasn't much fun!

Good luck x

hi i conceived twins on my 4th cycle of clomid ( 50mg on days 2-6), am now 24 weeks. i had been ttc for 17 mths with only 1 ovary & that had polycysts on ....after my 3rd cycle gave me a bfn we started looking into iui & then the next mth i got my bfp so i think clomid is fab!! good luck xx

it's so encouraging to hear positive feedback.....thank you :hugs:

Thanks, Liz5178. :) Just to update you, today's appointment for me went well! I have never ovulated, and on 100mg of clomid I did! For the first time! My preg test was a :bfn: however, she did tell me that it's not over until the :witch: shows up. Even if it doesnt happen this month, Im optimistic for next month.

While I, personally, couldn't take time off from TTC, I can understand why you would need to. Now that I am into the fertility medications and things, it would be a little difficult to take a break, because I would have to repeat all the steps I had already done. That being said, sometimes I just can't wait to get pregnant-- simply because then it wont be so forced. Pregnancy will have already been achieved, so we wouldnt have to count days, and do ovulation predictors, and chart temperatures. It can all be just SOOO stressful. Sometimes I feel like the only reason we are having sex is for pro-creating purposes. Do what ever you think is right for you! It's your journey! Good luck to you!!

That is wonderful news!! I'm sure it won't be long at all now until you get your BFP :happydance:

taking a break was our plan all along, we decided that if I wasn't pregnant in June then we would take a little break and book a vacation - I just happen to have a GYN appt last week so I figured I would aske him if I needed to be concerned, that is when he gave me the clomid and referred me to a fs, however, I told him that we were taking a break for a few months and letting the cards fall where they may...my dr said that was fine that I could start whenever I wanted to...but that is precisely why we are taking this break - ttc has literally sucked all the fun out of our intimate life...it was starting to feel like work as opposed to pleasure and fun...we are too newly married to let that happen so we felt it was best for us to take a little break....

Thanks, love.

If taking a break was you two's origonal plan, i would stick with it. who know, you may fall pregnant on your own-- while on break (: if not, the clomid will still be there waiting for you when you get back. I think that TTC putting a little stain on your marriage is kind of normal. I'm sure every lady on here would report some type of spousal issue that arrived while they were trying to concieve. I know that a lot of times TTC can cause some tension between my fiance and I. I sometimes feel like I have to do everything, and all he has to do is sit there and try to be supportive. Do whats best for your marriage.
I dont think that anyone else on this thread meant to insult you or say that you weren't as... "baby crazy" as the rest of us. I think some of the women have just been TTC for so long, that taking a break seems impossible, because of the current condition of their lives. If you let it, TTC can consume your entire life and become your only hobby. I know that it takes up at least 85% of my time & thougts-- & because of my goals, I'm OK with it. It's different for every individual. Sometimes, things get misunderstood or lost in translation via internet chats. (: Good luck!!

Liz - I thought I'd chime in. I didn't O on my own so I was put on clomid 50mg. I did 4 rounds of it and ovulated each time (suspect chemical pregnancies on the last clomid and first natural cycle after the clomid). However my progesterone was not getting as high as it should (the treatment for low progesterone after ovulation is clomid... or higher doses). My GYN wouldn't increase the dose so I went on to a FS. He immediately wanted to increase the dose.

So now I'm waiting for my next period so I can start fresh with the FS and be more closely monitored.

Incidentally I went to Disneyland during one of my earlier clomid rounds. I had told myself when we planned it that I'd be happy to stay on the milder rides if I was pregnant... I was already so frustrated with the TTC process and having my body not ovulate on its own that I didn't want to mess with it and we couldn't reschedule since the tickets were a gift and expired. I was actually ovulating right around then and got on the rides anyway. Until something is implanted, it really shouldn't affect a pregnancy.
So, if you count out your expected ovulation and find that you will not be in the 2ww while you are there, go ahead and take the clomid before you go.
I love Disneyland but it was REALLY hard to be in a place surrounded by kids and be dealing with not being able to have one yourself. Sort of like being immersed in a world where EVERYONE has kids except you! So just a heads up on that aspect of a Disney trip while TTC. I did get DH to stroller-stalk with me though... apparently he thinks everything looked flimsy except a double BOB stroller... hopefully I won't be needing a double!

we can't wait - I think the biggest conflict/issue that has come up between DH and I (we've been married about a year now) since TTC is that suddenly the power is all in his hands.... I'm the one who wants HIM to put out so he wants it on his terms now, lol. I figure its one of the few times in our relationship where he will have that power so I might as well let him enjoy it.

I am due to start my first cycle of 50mg clomid on friday! Started spotting today finally!!! I'm so excited to start the clomid, cd21 bloods have shown im not ovulating naturally but ijm not sure if that's just because they were taken at the wrong time for me?! Oh well!! Hopefully clomid will help me brew a GREAT egg!!
Good luck everyone xxx
