what week were you and what were your BP numbers that caused you to be diagnosed? did it have to be a resting BP or does it matter?

what did you Dr do? induction right away? wait a week to monitor?

Mine is normally in the 110s to 120s for the top and then 70s to 80s for the bottom..but the last few days I have been doing it randomly..we have a digital cuff at home..and its been in the high 120s to the high 130s over the high 80s and the high 90s!!

I have my 36 week appt on Tues and am going to mention this just wondering what they might say since Im 36 weeks will they want to induce or monitor or what? We have most of everything..especially clothes..diapers..etc..for LO but not everything totally ready to my nesting satisfaction atleast....all should be ready in a week or two... just wondering if anyone can give any insight?

My bp was 177/107 when they 1st noticed it and 1+ of protein I was admitted to hospital for 4 days this was at 34 weeks I was put on labetalol to keep it down I then had to go to the assessment unit every 2 days. Until 38+4 then I had a phone call as my protien had shot up to 4 pluses and my bloods came back not good can't remember exactly what was wrong in them so they got me in to be induced and my bp when I was there was ranging between 199 / 130 to 160/118 x x

wow..so maybe mine isnt as bad as I thought lol lol...

Mine was quite high from fairly early on, was mostly about 140/85 so I had to get it checked every 2 weeks from 20 weeks. It went up to 150/100 at one point when i was 37 weeks. i was taken in for monitoring for 5 hours, put on labetalol and told i had to see my midwife for bp check and urine sample every 3 days...but i ened up going into labour at 37+5 anyway!

I was kept on labetalol for about 6 weeks after having my lo and gradually weaned off it. x

If you think you have high blood pressure don't wait for your check up, call your midwife or the maternity triage number immediately.

I had hellp which is a rare complication of pre-eclampsia and it was very sudden onset, I had an emergency c-section. My case is rare but normal pre-eclampsia should not be ignored. Give them a call, I'm sure everything will be fine but be on the safe side.... and don't google hellp, its very rare so you almost certainly don't have it but reading about it won't help your bp lol.

I can't remember what my bp was, I'm not sure they even told me. I ended up in a&e with other chest pains and the high bp was identified there. It was all a bit of a blur really.

they discovered mine after my waters had broken - bp was 177/110. since my waters had already broken, they gave me pills to get it down, 2 injections and put me on an IV, then induced me to hurry things along

I was told that the top number doesn't really worry them but when the bottom number is over 90 and remains so after waiting 15 mins then they start to be concerned.

Even if this is sustained it is gestational hypertension (high bp during preg) unless accompanied by protein in urine, severe headache or upper right abdominal pain.

At 36 weeks I had raised bp and swollen hands and feet with plus 1 protein. I attended daycare on Tuesdays and Fridays and on the occasion where bottom number was over 90 I was given labetelol.

At 39+1 my protein jumped to plus 4 with flashing lights in my eye, I was admitted yo ward and put on labetelol twice a day.

But they still didn't induce me till 39+5.

My impression was that if pre-eclampsia symptoms came on suddenly at home then they are much more panicked but if it is caught and monitored they are not so stressed.

They didn't book my induction till I was spewing all over my hospital room!!

I was kept on labetelol for a week postpartum. My resting bp is still higher than it was pre-preg but not scary high.

If you feel unwell call labour triage for sure but be aware they can get a bit patronising about not checking your bp at home. They think the act of being worried about your bp makes it go up. One nurse told me I had just wound myself up at home only to find my bp was 150/109 for the whole hour they traced me. She later apologised.

Just trust your instincts and don't let bitchy nurses dismiss your concerns!

Best of luck- hope it doesn't end up as pe and that you can enjoy the end of your preg xx

mine was 170/110 and I had protein in my wee for weeks and they never done anything at all...this was from about week 30. I'm so upset about it as I knew I was becoming ill and the hospital done nothing about it.....in the end my organs began to shut down and I finally had her 10 days early. I hate the hospital for this!!!!!!!! Its left me petrified of every little ache or pain in my body as I don't feel in control. Your BP sounds fine, around whats its meant to be when not pregnant anyway. x

My BP was 145/103 when I was admitted for monitoring, 158/116 when I was diagnosed and sent to the delivery suite for 121 monitoring. I was only admitted because as well as having a high BP which stayed high after an hour of monitoring, my blood results indicated PE and I had some protein in my urine.

Anything greater than 140/90 is considered high. If your midwife thinks your BP is high, I would expect to be sent to day assessment for further monitoring and blood tests. It's really impossible to say what could happen after that - depends on so may factors inc the severity, gestation etc. I ended up with an emcs at 36 weeks as I got really quite ill very quickly, but it seems more usual to try induction first. But there are many options before that stage including medication, rest etc.

I was advised against using a home monitor as they can be unreliable. In the meantime if you have any severe swelling, intense headaches, visual disturbances or epigastric pain (right side just below your ribs and more painful than the baby kicking), then call your midwife.

it doesn't have to be all that high, for example if you have a low natural BP and it jumps up one week and maybe you also have protein in your urine.

With mine it started about 36w- my BP went from 100/60 to 120/70 with extreme leg swelling but no protein in urine, my consultant then suggested that i have my BP monitored more closely and its really a good thing he did, the next monday at my BP check at the nurse it had gone to 150/90 with ++protein in urine and the swelling in my hands and feet so i was sent to triage for monitoring, bloods showed uric acid. Consultant at this point suggested that i get to 38w and would then be induced. They let me out for a couple of days to go back for daycare for monitoring and they took it from there... everything moved very fast as i got sick very quickly and had to induce me a few days earlier than planned but in the end i was just happy to get the wee man here safe!

anyway sorry for waffling on. Def mention it, things can get bad really quickly. If you feel poorly in anyway, even if you just don't feel right, call your midwife or gp to get checked out.. xxx

i was induced at 38 weeks. i went for my 38 week check at my docs and she found my bp to be high (she never told me what it was) and protein in my urine. i had also experienced flashing lights and black spots. my ankles, hands and face were also swollen.

i went to triage and was told they would just do bloods and keep me in overnight as a precaution as my blood pressure wasnt too bad (bottom number 89). it got to around 7 that evening and it shot up to 170/105 and didnt get any lower then that. i was put on labetalol and was told they would induce when they had a space.

for it to be pre eclampsia you are looking at a blood pressure of 150/90 and higher, or over 10 mmhg higher than what your booking blood pressure was. you also need to have protein in your urine and your blood results will also indicate pre eclampsia.

Mine started bang on 38 weeks, was sent to hospital for monitoring where they did PET bloods and decided to induce me there and then. MY bp was only up to /110 - /120 so not as high as some and had +2 protein in my urine. That was with my first son and I was on labetalol afterwards for some time.

I was induced at 38 weeks for my next to pregnancies due to high BP but didnt actually have pre eclampsia x

I never had pre eclampsia , just eclampsia. No bp probs through pregnancy just towards the end of my labour and steadily got worse. Got quite bad at one point, 198/118 , had to have a magnesium sulphate drip as the tablets wouldn't work that quick to bring it down. Spent 3 days in intensive care, liver and kidney scans as they thought my organs were shutting down. Was given a combo of neffedipine and labetelol, still on 800 mg of labetelol 19 weeks on!! Only went in to give birth, spent 8 days threre!

I didn't have pre-eclampsia but did have hbp thoughout pregnancy. I was on labetalol and monitored every week but they never discussed induction as it was controlled ok. If it is just hbp you have I'm sure they won't be too concerned its if you have any other symptoms that they would look into more.
The other thing to consider is that if you didn't have a monitor at home you wouldn't even know it was slightly high and now if you are worrying it can make your bp go up so you never know it might be fine when you go for your appointment.
