A few questions lol

At what age did u introduce it?
Why did u decide to?
How many feeds to u give through eve and night??

xxxx

Hiya :) i formula feed my little girl for her last feed at night since she was about 6-7 weeks.
At first it was just to get her used to a bottle as every time i expressed and she would waste so much it really made me disheartened so i used formula insted
And have stuck to it bcos now i have 12 hours of sleep!! :)
i only feed her one at 8:30 and she wakes up at 8:30 the next day and then i start BF her

Thanks for responding...im in 2 minds to give him one!! He is so tempermental with his sleep (still early days i know) but is very unsettled during the day so i dont really get much if a break to rest/catch up on sleep...the most he has gone is 6 hours between feeds...But can be up from 4am and wont settle!!

Agghh i dont know!!!

Any advice greatly appreciated xxx

I used to give a FF at night and started at about 2 weeks (had trouble latching LO on and wasn't expressing enough for every feed). I had also been told it would help her sleep longer at night. Once she established a good latch, I moved to EBM for the last feed and don't think she sleeps any longer on formula...

thank u...ive treid him on EBM last feed and he takes 4oz but doesnt sleep any longer either!! He feeds anywhere from 1nhalf hours to 6 hours max so is always feeding lol xx

Might be worth a try introducing a couple of FF at night then and just see if it makes any difference - it didn't for us but I know it did for others. Good luck!

thanks...am worried it will muck up breastfeeding tho :( i always worry bout things lol xx

I started FF in the evenings 3 nights ago. I introduced because evenings was always a struggle with feeding taking hours before he was full.

Im still working out how were doing the feeding. He seems to want a big feed after his nap and then a top up

Some babies a formula feed before bed will help... some it doesnt! Up until Jasmine was eating 3 solid meals a day I gave her a dream feed around 10:00pm (or whenever I went to bed), she went to bed earlier though around 7:30... I found it helped her sleep though and she slept through since 6 weeks.

I think im going to introduce a FF this week when he is 12 weeks so that the feed that the FF has replaced I can express and start building up a supply so if someone needs to babysit they can have him a little longer.

Like it has been mentioned it doesn't meen they will sleep any longer if formula is given. My friends baby is FF and she still wakes up 1/2 in night and she is 6 weeks older than mine

Lucas has a bottle of ebm around 10-30 11pm then he wakes up around 2.30 for his dummy or to faff about then its about 4am for another feed then again about 2 hours later to come in our bed !!!!

He used to be such a good sleeper he would wake up in the night for feeds but then go straight off now he is older he just likes messing about !!!!

thanks...am worried it will muck up breastfeeding tho :( i always worry bout things lol xx

There are risks involved with mix feeding - nipple confusion, bottle preference (can affect any age baby) and supply problems.

These don't affect all women and babies, and you can't tell before you start if you'll be affected.

I think if you look at the benefits you'd gain from giving a formula feed, and the possible risks.

If breastfeeding is very important to you, you might not want to do anything to risk that relationship. If you are okay with always giving a formula feed, and you gain a lot from the break, then you might decide it is right for you.

We introduced it at about 4 weeks because we were having so many issues with his latch I needed the break! It didnt help at all with his sleeping though (didnt sleep through until solids) but did mean that my OH could do his night bottle and my boobs could have a rest! I expressed that feed for a couple of weeks but once he was established on the bottle I stopped doing that. I have had to exclusively breast feed a few times though due to him being poorly or refusing the bottle and my milk was always there for that extra feed within 24 hours or so

I started one formula feed at night about 8 weeks it helped him sleep 4 hours instead of 2!

Now I am upping the bottles now to 2 or 3 a day cos he is a hungry little man!

I find Aptamil is the best one :hugs: xx

i gave him one lastnite..Aptamil as thats what i had here ready!! he took it all went straight to sleep and went 5 hours between feeds 9usually does this every now and then any way) and was sick through the night and had very bad wind after :( xx

We wanted to indroduce a bottle at about 6/7pm so daddy could feed her and started it once breastfeeding was established. We have never had problems with breastfeeding but wanted to be on the safe side! I started with EBM but got to the point that I could not express enough so went to formula. W now have 7oz of hungary baby cow and gate and she loves it. It has not had any impact on breastfeeding at all.

I was concerned about my breastmilk but have found no problems. Good luck

At what age did u introduce it? Birth
Why did u decide to? low birth weight mw advice
How many feeds to u give through eve and night?? she as prem milk at 7pm and 10pm then sleeps till 5~6

I give Ellis 7-8oz before he goes to bed in the evening (little guzzler!!!) well, OH does so I can have a bath, and have been doing so for the last month although it may be EBM if I get a chance to express! It hasn't helped him sleep through, HV said that mainy mums that BF found it made no difference when they switched to FF, just depends on the baby! He has the bottle at 7pm and then usually wakes at 1am, 4am and at 7.30am which I can handle. If OH is off sometimes the 1am feed is a bottle. It has not effected my supply and I guess I have been lucky as Ellis has not been confused. We use Tommy Tippee CTN bottles.

At what age did u introduce it? About 10 weeks

Why did u decide to? Supply issues and cluster feeding caused me so much stress in the evenings. Also slow weight gain.

How many feeds to u give through eve and night?? She has her bottle at 8.30pm and then she sleeps until 2am. After that she normally sleeps til around 5am and then 10am. Think she is having a growth spurt atm though as she wakes up at 2am and the feeds ALL THE TIME until 7am when I get up with her!

It makes no difference wether it is ebm or formula!

Lucas had his first nightly ff last night and there were no prons only cons for me

Didn't sleep any longer and had really bad wind, he could of woke the dead it was that bad. If anything he woke up more than usual.

Im a bit gutted to be honest as over the last few weeks he has been waking up at the drop of a hat, including one night feed he wakes up at least 3/4 times.

I had hoped a ff would help him sleep longer.

aww mama2b :( kaleb had loads more wind aswell and was sick :( xxx
