Hi. My daughter and I have had thrush on and off for a while now. She is 8 weeks old. I'm not sure if its due to improper latch as I've been sore really the whole time since she was born although it is getting slightly easier. We went to the docs a few weeks back and were given Daktarin oral gel for me to put on. She said my daughter would get the gel in her mouth when feeding from me. Things seemed slightly better but I'm not sure if I stopped using it too soonor what because today it feels like its coming back, my daughter is fussy and pulling away and crying when feeding, I have sore nipples with sharp pains etc. I don't need to go back to docs each time I feel this coming back do I? How long do I treat it for? Do I rub the gel in baby's mouth or is it enough on my nipples? How often do I do this? Should I get Daktarin cream for nipples as I hear this is better, are all the daktarin creams the same (ie the athletes foot one, and safe to use on nipples. I'd've really grateful for some specific advice as to how to treat it. Thanks

The daktarin oral gel is very effective but is not designed for use on nipples, at best it won't be effective and at worse it can cause blocked ducts. It also may well be the case that the amount remaining on your nipples isn't enough to treat your baby and so it keeps recurring. I believe the daktarin cream recommended is the cheapest bog standard 2% one just labelled as 'daktarin cream', but I'm not 100% on that xx
